There would be lots of ways getting around the 1p tax on texts if there was one.

A transaction tax paid by the network providers might be possible. They would pass on the cost to customers but customers would find it very difficult to switch to a non charging network.

Customers don't pay tax.Bookies pay tax on profits Bea.

It wouldn't be difficult to make customers pay tax on returns - that is what used to happen in betting shops, so the process would still be known.

It's not sheepskin noseband science.

10 per cent on winnings - or a smaller amount on stake. Easily collected, lovely jubbly for more foreign aid (just for FUA) and the NHS.

Oh come on Phil, be fair... that's not a reason not to do it, really as there are lots of ways of getting round drugs being illegal, and all sorts of other things but we don't give up on looking for ways to combat them.

I'm not certain this one would work as easily as the betting tax, but it is interesting that people on here can come up with ideas when supposedlky highly educated and imaginative politicians (!) don't ever seem to.

Yes but like said before there are so many apps you can obtain where you can text, phone or send photos through free of charge. Can't see any justification of charging tax on texts.

I would prefer the revenue to be found through heavy taxing on alcohol, fizzy drinks and junk food. The country would be richer or healthier or somewhere in the middle.

More money is collected with the system as it is now Bea due to more money being staked. The original taxed paid by customers was passed on by bookies to the customers. The customer,at its height, was paying 10% on stakes or had 10% knocked off winnings. When this system was removed there became a massive increase in turnover in the shops. The customer paid no tax, only paid by bookies on gross profits at 15%.It's not Hillls Science.

Except it would result is less money raised.

We could tax garbage forum posts? Bad news for Bea Smith but all those Indian rocket scientists will be doing cartwheels.

Possibly an easy way to raise lots thru a relatively small charge per text...but there could be issues identifying the sender in many case so make the networks pay it.

Bring back the windows tax and the beard tax..the latter would have the added bonus of getting rid of a few hipsters..well their ridiculous beards anyway:wink:

Only selfish creatures who would deny starving people food and innocent children fresh water would cut Foreign Aid. I'm really glad some of everyone's money - including yours - is being used for it, pity it isn't a bit more.

You are right about the big business tax evaders, and add in small ones as well, rather than put their NI up. Their NI will need to be the same eventually, but do it in 10 annual 10 per cent stages if it has to be done, so year to year change is minimal.

Again more words of wisdom and abuse from yourself, again i will reply, for starters why give aid and money to non british citizens is beyond me, sponsoring and promoting netball in china for what was it 32 million? arming african warlords and tyrants, funding terrorists or aid/money mysteriously going missing, people see aid money and they lick their lips with glee how on best to profit or exploit it, its the same with charities, these people who run charities have wages of 100s of thousands a year, look at the famous als charity that did the ice bucket challenge for example, these people exploit and get rich.

I dont know if you have left up house and been up hanley but theres pretty much homeless everytime i go up there night or day asking for money, if you go to the hive in cineworld at night or around barclays the same guy comes up to you asking for money, charity should be done at home first, theres people who cant get a house or a job etc, we have our own problems, we should help our own.

We send aid to india (7th biggest economy) and china (2nd biggest economy) for example which have nuclear weapons, space programs and can support themselves, india recently said they never even asked the UK for aid money and would happily reject it, you are one of these people who thinks you can keep pouring glasses of water into sand in the desert and it will magically change something, have you ever paid tax, you do understand it comes out of your earnings, third world countries need to get their own houses in order and support themselves, not rely on aid, if all the aid actually went into meaningful places and meaningful schemes they might actually have farms and infrastructure to support themselves.

With africa for example one of the easiest ways if not the easiest way to climb out of poverty and develop as a country is to grow and sell food because its relativity easy but it cannot do that as it cant sell food to europe which is on its doorstep due to EU protectionism, as many things with the EU and its self righteous supporters its a great irony, personally i would happily buy cheaper africa crops in the supermarket as everyone wins.

Secondary apparently under new rules people/companies aiding in tax evasion face a fine of the amount of tax evaded, which is actually a pretty damn good idea even though its not there money, tax evasion will always been a cat and mouse game and something more can always be done but in the past 6 months theres been action taken on it multiple times from what i have seen in the news.

Offshore bookies already pay tax on UK customers due to 'point of consumption tax' introduced last year. We're still here due to an outdated levy and much better corporation tax.

Taxing punters again would be a negative for all parties.

Is it still 15% on gross profits on all bets home and abroad valefanintean?I think Bet 365 have always paid it home and abroad.Ive lost touch since I retired.I know there's a new levy being introduced in April on profits ,over 500k, at 10%.It may cost jobs especially in marginal shops?

of course we wouldn't deny starving people food n water. What we would deny is giving millions to corrupt dictatots, building airports where the high winds make it ioperable, funding PC pop groups, and so on
