Alex Donald played for the Vale,that was the game Keegan played for Scunny I'm sure they had a player sent off called Verity, also the previous home game for the first team got a gate of circa 3k and the Youth cup game on the Monday got a gate of approx. 11k !

Blackdog I am willing to bet a large sum of money that Kevin Keegan did not play in that game. Keegan was born in 1951, Cullerton and James in 1948, Keegan was 3 years behind that team. I think this is one of those urban myths that have built up over the years. Yes I think Alex Donald was in the team, also Malcolm McKenzie perhaps, and a big centre half called Dickson perhaps.

I remember the Chelsea night well but not the players. Chelsea were superb and our team played well but were bettered. Night was topped off by an earthquake where I lived at time. Remember the wardrobes rattling and wondering if I'd dreamt it or had a curry.

It was a lad named Gael Kakuta who scored a hat-trick that night and looked like the real deal. Very classy. His career hasn't taken off and he's been around a few European clubs without shining much. I think it finished 2-5 didn't it?

Well you don't have to look far, one of the players on the Chelsea bench was a certain Anthony Grant

Couple of names gone on to play at a good standard in that team in Jeffrey Bruma and Patrick van Aarnolt.

 

All I remember was Gael Kakuta being absolute class. He was unreal.

Indeed it does not, but I read that recently, somewhere, I shall try to find the source document, even if it is wrong.

 

I checked wiki, and looked at what Grant was doing around that time and also checked his age, and he would have been too old to play for the youth team ten and was probably on loan to Southend when that game was played. So I got that one wrong, but I really must find the document that listed him as sub just for my own curiousity about sources.
