Today's league games

Spot on. Take a look at the statto Port Vale page and read down the last column on the right. You'd have to seriously question the judgement off anyone who thinks we don't have a problem after reading that.

Which is presumably why Michael Brown is working his ass off to try and improve us.

Despite today's freakish results, we stayed 15th.

Let's see how we look with the new and returning lads before we throw the towel in, eh?

As a comparison I'll always remember the 1991/92 season. This serves as a good reminder not to get complacent.

Mid January we were roughly the same as we are now. 17th position with 31 points.

Even by early March we hadn't even dropped into the bottom four. We were fourth from bottom when we lost at Tranmere in a Friday night game on the 6th of March and after everyone else played their games the day after we were bottom.

We might not get sucked in but we've got to win games to make sure it doesn't happen. Never been comfortable with the old complacent 'games in hand' mindset either.

Didn't we as good as get relegated at Cambridge that season?

Yes, 4-2 penultimate game of the season. Although the last minute Charlton equaliser the game before felt like it killed us.

Nobody's throwing in the towel, just saying this is how it can happen if we aren't careful.

Exactly, I don't think we'll go down but the surest way to ensure we do would be to pretend we don't have a serious problem. Nothing to do with throwing the towel in, everything to do with ensuring we face up to the consequences of continuing our current form. Just to emphasise the point, on our form over the last 10 games, we're fifth from bottom ; on the last 6 games, we're fourth from bottom. So carrying on as we are, we're certs.

I wish Michael Brown every success but it ain't going to be easy. Even Rudgie couldn't keep us up in his first season. Let's hope for better. UTV.

There's a few teams that would swap places with us Santa.Games in hand aren't points but we already have points in the bag.5 defeats on the trot and we'll be still looking over our shoulder.5 wins and relax.

You know it doesn't happen like that - 5 wins or 5 defeats in a row is most unlikely, but we could easily win 1, draw 2 and lose 2 (which would be an improvement on nov/dec form). It isn't silly panic to be aware of the danger of being sucked in.

Im hoping for more signings, improved performances, great motivation from MB, and improved gates and general support.

But I'm not such a fool as to believe all these things will happen automatically and without a good deal of hard work. We can improve, and should do, but be wary of the possibility of complacency and smugness.

One player does not make a team' date=' though we could do with an attack minded player with his eye for goal [b']as at the moment we have a misfiring Hooper, a player that's really an impact sub in Reg, a crock that looks promising in Forrester oh and that waste of breath Kelly![/[/b]QUOTE]

And who is responsible for this current situation (careful how you answer)-

- MB - no, hasn't been in charge long enough

- Rob Page - no, long gone, tons of time to change since he left

- Bruno -largely, but who appointed him and allowed him to end up with the current selection you rate so highly above - therefore, your chum.

How's that foot that you just shot yourself ?

And whilst one player does not make a team, where do you think we'd be in the table without his 10 goals ?

We're mid table but certainly not comfortable. The gap is only six points and our form is not great. We've not got goals in the team. Smith and Streete are now marked closely at set pieces as they're known by other clubs. We need the new players (Eagles) to add creativity and assists for JJ, Reggie and Forrester. Hopefully Forrester stays fit now and Foley is a big player if he comes back next month.

It's in our hands but the games against the low teams are crucial. We've got to avoid losing and win some of them.
