What loan striker could we sign?

As the weeks pass and the pool of available strikers becomes shallower signs of desperation are starting to show among some of the faithful.

We don't have any up and coming young forwards who are good enough to go straight into our first team and score 15+ goals. The clamour for Campion was deafening on here but he wasn't up to it even though he was scoring a lot of goals for our reserves.

Leitch-Smith can't score in the proverbial b*****l. 2 in 33 last year for Yeovil.

Ajose went 18 games with Crewe and didn't score a goal at the tail end of last season.

And many on here were criticising Pope's scoring record!

We have two huge problems. One is the fact that a great many clubs can offer more money than we can, so if anyone else comes in for a player we want they can always trump our card. Second, there are several big teams in this league who will have a better chance than us of going up, and players will go to the likes of SU and WA because of their potential/recent history. We simply can't match what some can offer.

But the sooner we can find a couple of forwards the better because we need to bed them in and get used to our new style of play and that gets more difficult with the passing of time.

Doesn't seem to be any indication at present that we are very close does there?

I would prefer Jordan Hugill to Kapend, he has at least scored some league goals.

Not many at all.....

Also what a stupid comparison. Kapend is yet to play a game! Give the lad a chance. Hugill was ok here but massively overrated and has struggled ever since.

I think Hugill had lots of potential but he foolishly thought he was better than he was and the bright lines of PNE's first team hypnotized him.

He had little game time there and perhaps his career went backwards because if he'd stayed here he would have played a lot more games for us and carried on learning his craft.

I think it was a silly move - particularly after we'd given him the opportunity in the first place - but life moves on.

I don't see a need to panic yet. Lots of Clubs are still looking to do business, and one new signing could make another available. Also, some Clubs might belatedly decide to loan out players when they've got a more settled squad in mind by the start of the season.

And finally, we have people like Kapend, who seems highly rated. I hope the Vale will use him. If they're good enough they're old enough. And that applies to quite a few of our 'development' players! If they're not good enough by now (eg Lloyd) why are they still with us?

I agree and it's not a matter of a glass half full etc but based on two facts and being realistic. Our two strikers were the first Vale players to be signed by other clubs and add to that we haven't found replacements yet and we're already in pre-season.

Goal scorers don't come cheap and are not 10 a penny so unless Vale are prepared to pay it's gonna be hard to find one striker who can score goals in Lge 1 let alone two. I hope we don't panic sign someone with 2 in 33 games. Let's hope Page and Bodin can do the business.

Other clubs can offer more than we can.

Because they have balanced their squad out accordingly.

We have 3 Keepers. 9 defenders. 13 midfielders and 3 strikers. And one of them is Doddsy who is more of an attacking midfielder.

13 midfielders.

Page has a lot to answer for.

1.7/1.85 million on the budget with more than likely less than 100k spent on strikers.

Ridiculous.

A squad of 28 with 13 of them not having 30 league matches combined and we still have no experienced striker in the squad!

Chairman. Manager. Or both are to blame for this debacle so far.
