Cracking week for the chairman!

Although what's happened this week is of course positive, I think people are getting a little carried away!

Lets take a step back and compare ourselves to the end of the season. The majority were angry and frustrated and wanted wholesale changes to the team and management.

As it stands the only difference is we have lost 2 strikers (1 most arent fussed about) and currently have no strike force. We are potentially looking at losing Marshall (one of the 2 or better players last season).

We have signed Streete (which is a great signing may I add) but not really the defensive clearout we all wanted.

Things have started to happen this week but as it stands the team still hasn't really moved forward much from last season so personally I'll see where we are in a month before judging our pre season 'shake up'.....We still need at least 3 maybe 4 more GOOD signings...fingers crossed.

I think there was some talk about 400k left in the budget for signings after sorting out the wages of last season's players on new terms.

Well that little sum must have gone up since we've lost both our strikers and only signed three players. Streete and Foley might be on decent wages but I guess Kelly not so much. Their combined wages probably cancel out those for TP & BW.

So we might still have the best part of the 400K left in the jar. That should be enough to get 3-4 others through the door, including strikers.

We have had a good week to date but the key to our success next year lies in us attracting two very good forwards. I can't stress that enough. We very badly need to replace what we've lost and it's forwards that win games.

I'll be very happy once we've signed some strikers. There aren't anywhere near enough goals in the team at the minute.

Yep, will be interesting to see who he brings in. I think we're going to start with a base formation of 4-2-3-1 (Just my opinion!) and work from there this season, with variations hopefully off the back of that to suit the opposition. I'm not especially hopeful of that, as Page appeared to get it wrong a few times from the start in the latter stage of the season (Swindon at home was one of most glaringly obvious) but you can believe that he didn't think he had enough options in the squad to change it any meaningful way, and a summer of recruitment will maybe change that.

To play one up top, we need someone big, mobile with an eye for goal to put it in simple terms. Elliott would appear to fit the first two criteria, but I still think we'll need another striker to make me feel more secure about success this season. He'll need to be selfish enough to forget about heading onto the wings when we have the ball and stay in the box to put away chances, but be a team player when we don't have it and close the ball down. Hard to find I think, hopefully we'll land a gem from somewhere.

To cover Cheshire Valiant's point above, in most respects the chairman hasn't done anything particularly out of the ordinary this week of what a good chairman/owner would do. But it's been quite a while since we've had a good chairman/owner, so even things like the kit being available in June, which should be a given are spectacular victories compared to the previous shower. I for one, thank him for being an able and competent chairman!

A positive week all in all, despite the miserable few numpties on this thread who probably just have crap lives and struggle to be even the slightest bit optimistic about anything.

Streets is a major coup, as is the re-signing of O'Connor. With the signing of Foley that should be a formidable partnership in the centre of the park. We do need a couple of decent, experienced forwards of course and I'm sure Page and Smurf realise this every bit as much as the rest of us and are working hard to rectify it as we speak.

Well done Smurf, good work for all involved at PVFC for a very fruitful and productive week.:) New signings made and O'Connor signing a new contract certainly is a step in the right direction.

Looking forward to heading back to the Potteries next weekend and heading upto Burslem to have a look at and hopefuly buying some 'goodies' available from the club shop ready for the Summer holidays abroad.

Well, what a surprise - I decided to have a couple of weeks complete break from TV and Internet, not even keeping in touch with news generally or Vale. I come back and find almost universal good news at the Vale, apart from Tom Pope going. But the change in mood and the uplifting feeling is really noticeable, and its great to see.

Big thanks and congratulations to all involved in the new signings, and keeping O'C, and hope for a couple more good ones, also pleased with the fixtures and the Capital One cup draw.

I am counting down the days to the season start now, and will get a new shirt soon as it is also good that these will be available so early, another unexpected plus point.:)
