Retained list?.

It has been stated on here on many occasion that l should stay out of football matters and within a few days l am now to step in

It would be wrong of me to comment on Rob's decisions as that would undermine him so l will not be

What l will do is share some facts with you

Last year based on ST sale and previous season gates (ex Wolves) the budget was set at 1.7 ie 60% of Clubs income

I then invested 700k with another 50k after Rob's appointment

Last season our gates were down 20%

I have given Rob the same budget of 1.7M

The difference is l will not be putting another investment having learn't my lesson over the Prem striker episode

I will invest if l see the appetite and/or oppurtunity

Assuming all players accept their terms which they will not there will be circa 400k to do business in the loan market or player acquisition

I can take us to the Championship but without the desire and support will not be doing it alone

I trust this gives you all some insight

I wont argue with you not throwing money at it.

I cant argue with you employing a manager and giving him the reigns... I could argue about your choice of manager but you are the employer, its your money, your decision so I wont

What I find strange is... you must surely have had some knowledge of the retained list and with that in mind you allowed it to proceed with a 2 year deal with the proviso you may terminate in September... which would hog tie the next unfortunate who takes the helm as manager and recreate the same scenario page played out in getting the job... ie... not my team and money spent on lazy signings.

I understand the list puts you in a "rock and a hard place" situation, it also creates bad feeling with the playing public who complained bitterly about dreadful football from all the players who have been retained [as a team not as individuals] and its going to take quite an extraordinary fete to dispel their disappointment and rekindle a little hope for next season.... sadly I dont think thats possible with 400K

Rob knows half of them will walk.

And we all know it will be the better half of Marshall, Pope, O'connor who leave whilst we are stuck with the likes of Yates,Birchall,Williamson,Lloyd as they are unlikely to move on as previous years shows!

Also why offer contracts if you expect them to leave? Do not understand the logic at all, you only offer them contracts if they are good enough no other reason surely?

I wish you all the best but I will not be renewing my season ticket.

Having listened to Page's interview now and read his comments I do think there is some merit in what he's saying.

Many posters without exception focus on the negatives and blow things out of proportion, with expletives galore and telling everyone with glee that they are not supporting the Vale any more. Fine. Everyone has a right to say what they think.

But I disagree. If we focus instead on the positives there is a lot to be optimistic about.

The two bete noirs that were hated on here (Glover & Grew) are off and we're having two new coaches and someone to help the 'keepers.

We are attempting to keep our better players. It probably won't happen but at least Page realises their importance.

He has said that the 4-5 new players he wants will hopefully go straight into the first team. 4-5, not 1-2. That could make a massive difference.

It makes sense to keep some of last years' players as there are a few who can do a job at this level - like Dodds.

Many will be accepting a wage cut if they stay but many, as NS says above, will go, freeing more money.

4-5 new first team players, a new coaching staff, Neal & Moore are still here, and an effort is being made to keep Pope, O'Connor and Marsall, as well as bringing back Inniss on loan - what more can we realistically expect?

Unfortunately we can't turn the clock back and re-establish the Williams-Woodward partnership though I guarantee that would get people through the gates. ;)

I'm normally the eternal pessimist but I think there is merit in what is going on and the starting XI will be completely different to what it was last season. About half the team will be new players.

Smile :) They say it's better for your health than a frown.

I stand by it, sick n tired of listening to him...p45 this, new start that, page his own squad, can he actually say what page has done that warrants a two year deal?

Time to go smurf, before it really goes **** up ....oh & when you do sell that means club & GROUND

I am not sure anything you have to say has any credability

Rob knows half of them will walk.

From someone who has worked for the club, that is a frightening comment. Why on earth offer a contract if you want them to go? Especially when the ones to go will be the better ones who can get another offer at this level?

I don't blame smurf at all, but if he expects fans to come back in numbers to boost the budget after this news then he is going to be badly disappointed. ST sales are going to go down without a doubt.

And Ray, im pretty sure if this was adams retained list, you would have thought it lazy.

Rob knows half of them will walk.

I'm sorry, but this makes no sense. Please explain.

Here is my thinking: if Page expects half of them to walk, then pick the half he'd rather leave and just release them. Then use half of this money to give to the better players decent deals so that they are more likely to stay. Then use the other half saved to bring better players in.

This is what I predict will happen: birchall and willo will stay whilst Marshall and o'connor leave. ****ing brilliant.

I feel sorry for Smurf. People seem to be blaming him but he gave Page the chance to do what he wanted. We desperately needed a clear out. Smurf provided the platform, but remember that Page is the one that has not delivered.

Yes l agreed contract with Rob Tuesday after Yeovil game

:doh:It sounds like hes stuffed you royally... maybe not intentionally [although I would tend to think so if it was me]

Then boss were in a bit of a pickle... we just have to hope the signings are with better judgement than the retained list and it sparks the fans to buy season tickets... I wish you/us/vale all the luck we can muster
