I have put my spare cash on a wager that Vale go down to div two next season and smurfs boosted my chances of winning by his first most important decision the appiontment of relegation rob to the most crucial job at vale

Do you think Sjoke will escape relegation next season?

Think you've lost your money there FBS.

We under achieved this year so there's no way we will be going down next. We have survived the dreaded 2nd season syndrome and I think we will be upwardly mobile now.

Hoping for some good positive changes in both the backroom staff and on the field.

PortVale4Life - had to smile at your 'That's me done Smurf .... Are you changing to PortValenot4Life? :D (no offence intended)

Not happy with the decision, but the decision has been made now. I have a ST already, bought in January so will be going the home matches that I can get to when I'm free.

I really hope Page can prove the doubters, me included wrong.

Exactly the same for me. Not my choice as a manager but more than happy to be proved wrong.

Imo,Pagey deserves a chance with his own backroom staff and players and the next few weeks will be interesting to say the least, with the priority being to get Oaky and Marshy signed up again along with Ryan Inniss from Palace. It is plainly obvious that we need to weed out at least six of the current squad and get some fresh blood in.With a new set of players Pagey also needs a new strategy, especially at Vale Park where most of the home games have been dire and we can't afford to lose another ten home games.

Looking forward to big changes and the new season.

Up the Vale.:upthevale:

I'm with you there. I agree with the Smurf quotes in the interview - he deserves the chance to do it with his own backroom staff and players. I personally cannot understand the short-termism of some people - giving someone a few months in a job without even his signings and then saying he's not "up to the job" isn't a fair judgement in my occasion.

In most club's histories a period of success has come when a club has kept faith with someone and that stability has resulted in success (look at - Rudge-Vale, Gradi-Crewe, Pulis-Stoke). Giving people time is no guarantee of success and Page may not work, but I think he at least deserves a bit more time with his own squad of players.

Not massively enthused but you have to just hope that Page will approach the job a lot less cautiously once he has assembled his own squad and backroom staff.

His main priorities are:

Not enough goals in the side

Not enough legs in midfield

Defence just plain *****

Coaching staff inept and poisonous.

Can't say fairer than that Smurf. Give Page free reign to bring in his staff and his squad. No excuses after that.

Some posters on here make me laugh though. Moan moan ******ing moan. Fat boy even referred to Page as relegation Rob. Hilarious. So far his managerial career has 0 relegations, despite inheriting a squad we all agree isn't good enough.

Fans spend ages moaning about last years squad. Page took that squad to within 3 points of the play offs at one point, and avoided relegation despite the terrible runs at the beginning and end of the season. He worked wonders at times with the ***** at his disposal.

Lets see what happens over the next few weeks. Well done Smurf.

Happy to go with Smurf and see what Page does until the end of September. The retained list will tell us a lot about whether he has learnt from this season or is actually as misguided as some of his selections have suggested.

Without a doubt though the biggest downside is that we will still have to listen to him manage to fit 'we'll dust ourselves down and go again' into every interview!!!

There doesn't seem a lot to blame Page for there

The news you've all been waiting for, now play nicely folks.

For the more objective and rational thinkers amongst us, not really a big surprise I guess. No doubt the "Page out" brigade will be vociferous in the coming posts! Get used to it, back the man and his team--whoever they may be, on, and off the field--and above all support our club. Up the Vale!

Love the positivity! Give the man a chance to sort out his own squad--then judge him!

those who say give him a chance with his own players , then "Yes", I can understand that view, although personaly I dont think based on what Ive seen that he can cut it. But we`ll see. What gets me is the argument that "we`ve had lots of sh..te managers in the past, lots of sh..te football in the past" etc etc. Yes of course, Ive seen most of it. One thing is different now. £25 ish for a ticket to watch it? Other attractions for kids/floating spectators? Complacency and accepting your lot without complaint because somehow you/we don`t deserve better or can expect anything different? Then "No", thats not for me.

This is either massively complacent by Smurf, or he is afraid to sack Page, or actually he really aint bothered.

See you in August.

I've been following the Vale since the mid 1970s, during which time the following individuals have been Manager.

Roy Sproson

Bobby Smith

Dennis Butler

Alan Bloor

John McGrath

Sir John Rudge

Brian Horton

Martin Foyle

Lee Sinnott

Dean Glover

Micky Adams

Mental Jim Gannon

Rob Page

Some of these Managers have been good, some average, and some woeful. Regardless of who is the Manager in the future, I'll continue to follow the Vale. I might have a moan about them, but I will never allow the managerial stewardship of the club to impact on my support.

Might I remind some on here that similar criticism of Page was made of John Rudge in his early years at the Vale. Page, like Rudge, strikes me as a thoughtful man, who will learn from hs mistakes and become much improved over time
