UKIP secures control of £1.5m EU cash, Newsnight learns

The money is normally set aside for parties that want to promote European integration and the decision to seek the funding has split UKIP members.

Party members opposing the move complain that UKIP staged an internal referendum on the issue three years ago - and rejected the idea of accepting EU money in this way.

Over the weekend, Kerry Smith resigned as a prospective UKIP parliamentary candidate, after he admitted making offensive remarks about gay people.

Meantime a wealthy UKIP donor is said to be threatening to stop funding the party if his friend doesn't get a seat.

A disciplinary hearing has taken place into the conduct of UKIP's general secretary.

Former Tory MP Neil Hamilton has withdrawn from the selection process to become a prospective parliamentary candidate for UKIP in Essex. He said he supported another candidate, Kerry Smith, who was later selected.

I wonder who masterminded that selection?

Every party has its nut jobs..

The BBC on Kerry Smith- During the recorded conversation, Mr Smith talks about UKIP's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) group and he can be heard jokingly referring to it as BLT UKIP, and adds "what the old poofter groups call themselves".

He blamed sedatives for his state of mind....be careful when you glug that Night Nurse.

Some people will be put off by their antics but I can still see them getting at least five times the vote they got in the 2010 general election which will be an amazing improvement.

Now I'm not suggesting politicians are saints as a rule but it just goes to show that if you dress dross up in a suit they'll soon show their true colours.

With the late/ immigrant thing, the breast feeding comments, now this- all in the matter of a week or so, the other parties must be wetting themselves laughing. It really would appear intolerance is at the heart of everything UKIP

The membership voted against it but the party leadership took no notice and did it anyway.... typical politics... its money from the UK they say and its better off here.... in our pockets... well theirs really... it will cover expenses and phone calls, beer and fags of course and a few sundries

Over the weekend, Kerry Smith resigned as a prospective UKIP parliamentary candidate, after he admitted making offensive remarks about gay people.

say one thing in public and another in private... well not quite private enough... political life as usual then

the political old boys act, keeping the upper class where the upper class want them

There's a lot of thumbs down going on on this thread but very little argument- interesting that. I suppose trying to justify the unjustifiable is a complicated and futile business

how old are you yukon, you should know by now not to believe everything you read or listen to where politics are concerned.:boring:
