I've just seen the Super Mario poster put on Instagram by Ballotelli for which he's been heavily criticised. I'm shocked, honestly, but not at Ballotelli's poster at the ridiculously over-the-top reaction he's had to it. Maybe I'm just unaware of my rampant bigotry but personally I find it difficult to see anything truly offensive in it, I see it as a mildly amusing way of saying how Super Mario is representative of all sorts of people the world over and thus how we're all humans together.

If people are really offended by something like that they ought to see a psychiatrist because they must have some form of political correctness OCD.

 

Ballotelli's a bit bonkers but mainly in a nice eccentric way and I feel sorry for him that this seemingly innocent post has backfired on him so much. Does anybody seriously think Ballotelli comes across as a racist?

I feel that's pretty much how he meant it to come across and motive is key for me when it comes to stuff like this. It may have been a daft thing to do but we're entitled to do daft things and should not stop doing so cos someone deems themselves offended by it. Won't be able to say anything soon in case someone finds it offensive.

Whilst I don't think Balotelli meant anything negative by his post, I can definitely understand how someone can find the phrase 'grabs coins like a Jew' offensive.

From what I've read, I can't think of another player who's had to put up with so much racism as Balotelli, particularly in Italy. Feel a bit sorry for the lad, to be honest. The wording is a bit unfortunate but I don't think he meant anything by it.

Maybe if you were Jewish and you and your family had had to put up with this kind of negative stereotyping for generations, you might think differently.
