But by the looks of Normans press conference though it looks like the job is Page's as long as he does okay up to October!

Just been looking on the Halifax forum and Rudge attends about a dozen home games a season and their thoughts are that if Rudge is to be consulted by the Port Vale Chairman then Aspin will be certainly be endorsed by John Rudge......they also think that should Aspin get short listed and interviewed Aspin will impress the Chairman and get the job and even the compo isn't any sort of significant sum of money....the fear seems genuine

that if Rudge is to be consulted then Aspin will be championed and once in the building will be the standout candidate.

So could it be between ...Aspin...Page.....McDermott.........a kinda "eggheads" challenge.

Aspin's a legend at Vale let him stay that way and not get stigmatised like Glover, no-one remembers what a fantastic player Dean Glover was for Vale anymore because he made a pigs ear of it when he was manager. Come on Smurf there has got to be more imagination in the new gaffer appointment surely???

From the Halifax fourm

Vales biggest ever legend, Has two titles, a play off semi, a play off win, another playoff semi, finsihed 5th as a part time conf team, beating the Champions Luton 5-4 over both league games, now stands 4th in the conference. 62% win ration overall, builds squad after squad of the best never say die players we have ever seen at the Shay. And has lost only around a dozen home games in 6 years

John Rudge wasn't even a non league manager when he was given his opportunity. You all seem so afraid of trying the untried just because he isnt a name . Its all about the interview and looking at the persons being interviewed . Any decent interviewer would know the names of the people being interviewed and would set a date to give him, or her, enough time to find out the pros/cons of the interviewee. DOnt just go on their CV but make big strides to find out about the individual - they all have successes but they also all have flaws. This is not a time for people to be bandying around any name they fancy because, lets face it, we are not in a possition to employ the new manager. Norm is.

Norm's just said on Radio Stoke that he is giving Page until the end of October to make a case for him to be manager and the key indicator of success will be that he has turned the results problem around. He didnt go as far as saying that another key indicator would be the style or manner of football - no, Just the results.AND there will be no sentiment come end of October - he measurs up or he doesnt get it ! That will do for me as a start as we need to stabalise to what we had last year. Once that is achieved and we start looking up the table rather than how close we are to the bottom plans can be identified as to how the football will be improved. Currently its impossible to envisage the football getting better due to the persistant use of crab football - pass it side ways in our own half for 7 or 8 passes and then, when all thought is gone, hoof it up to a Red or Blue or any coloured shirt that Vale are not playing in at the time. Results are the be all and end all and Norm has spelt it out to Rob Page - If you want the job get results - if you dont ,you wont be the manager - Norm has gone even further and said that if Page is unsuccessful in his attempt to be the New Manager one of the criteria that he will give the NEW manager is that PAGE is retained as assistant. So he has been very fair with Rob and the opportunity should be grasped with both hands - Norm didnt go so far to say that the same would apply to other coaching staff ! It is also my opinion that Page needs to set out his stall and make it crystal clear to those that have really failed the club - The players . Over the next week he needs to sit down with each of them and start by asking a simple question - Do you want to be part of Port Vale ? He knows those who are swinging the lead and those that really want to be a success here - and the time is right for him to put aside any sentiment that Micky had towards any player. And one last thought for the players from me - if Page doesnt get the job, he will still be there in some capacity at contract renewal time - Think on, if you **** on him is he man enough to forget it ! I certainly hope not, because by ****ting on Page then you **** on evry Vale fan !!

His recomendations will go a long way to deciding who is retained and who is let go even if he doesnt make the final decisions himself.
