I think the standard of spelling and grammar is appalling particularly young kids!!

 

Many of them won't need a tongue shortly,just a spare finger to swipe their phone.

Unfortunately the written word is sliding into oblivion. The days of the hand written letter is a thing of the dim and distant past I'm afraid. It is the same with Mathematics, it's a case of why use your brain when you can use a calculator. It is all so sad.

Even though they don't pay attention to writing in schools these days, I know a lad who is very keen on calligraphy.

 

There is much more to mathematics than a calculator. Now if you are talking arithmetic, it is another matter.

I was standing at the bar in a pub with some mates last Friday ordering lunch. One of my party, a former English teacher, simply could not resist wetting his finger and removing a rogue apostrophe from the Daily Specials board!

Is not potato's sometimes an abreviation of potatoes when there is not enough space on the board?

I would actually ban calculators from schools. They just make you lazy. When I was at junior school, every morning we had mental arithmetic tests against the clock and if you broke the record, you'd win a prize.
