Its now over 10 billion, raised by 60 different countries. How dare we help people in a country desperate for food and healthcare. Proper shocking isn't it.

Our donations are 2.3bn if you didn't know, which you probably don't. We are 1.3trillion in debt. Our economy is worth about 1.4trillion. We aren't / weren't far off a Greece, Ireland or Portugal. Still let's give more money to a country who are all fleeing here.

I heard an interesting idea recently. Instead of charging everyone, A and E could install breathalysers and those new machines th police have to show drug usage, and anyone over, say, double the driving limit or who has been on Class A drugs (providing they were not a victim opf someone else's bad driving or something), and anyone who fails could be charged £100 - any thoughts on this ? (I am not proposing it myself).

That wouldn't be fair. I got my head kicked in whilst on acid once and had to go to A&E. Under those rules, I'd have had to pay the hundred quid when all I'd been doing was having a nice chat with a sapling.

Of course, people who'd been attacked would be excluded - and possibly it should be restricted to the massively drunk as there are fgew illegal drugs that cause as much trouble as alcohol.

As an aside, why on earth didn't you ask the sapling to get its friends to help you beat off the attackers ?

I'd support the principle but only for repeat offenders..something like third time unlucky. Anyone who drinks could inadvertantly have one too many and injure themselves and so need A&E but if someone keeps doing it then fairynuff..

Plus I guess the injury could be nothing to do them having had a lot to drink..hust a coincidence. How to prove the link? If they keep doing it however ?

  • 2 months later...

If reports are correct,it seems A&E's were relatively quiet during the last two days of the young doctors strike. If people stayed away doesn't it prove that their needs were not an emergency and could have been dealt with by a GP?

The clue's in the name folks,Accident and Emergency.

Indeed..but we'll see if there is a surge today

A related comment from a junior doctor on strike on Tuesday i think..(I paraphrase) "The service might actually be better today as the doctors on duty will be more senior and have more specialist skills"

I suspect he was trying to say that the strike was not putting people at risk as much as people may think but it came across somewhat differently.

If there is a surge today though, doesn't it prove that if people can wait two days for treatment,it wasn't an emergency in the first place?
