The Ashes 2.

Western Australia 369/4 after 90 overs in England's first warm-up match down-under.

Views and opinions please.

My view is that it's a warm-up and that's all it should be treated as.

With the cup half-full you could say it is giving England's bowling attack plenty of chance to acclimatise! ;)

I still personally think that although Aus will be a bit better and so it will be closer that as long as England's key players don't all lose form, England have enough to win.

Can some one explain why we are playing the Ashes again so soon after the last lot!?! I'm not anti-cricket, in fact as I've got older I quite enjoy it but I am new to the rules etc and am frankly ignorant.

It is to change the year we play the Ashes in Australia. If we waited until next winter when it was due to be played we would be going to the World Cup in Feb/March just after the Series in Australia finishes.

So we have had back to back ashes this time round so that the World Cup and Ashes in Australia are now out of Sync and played in different years. The Ashes will now revert back to every 2 years again so we will play Aus again 2015.

Your guess is as good as mine to a degree Yukon! I've followed Cricket since I was knee high and the Ashes is usually every 4 years in each country so it should have been end of 2014 into 2015 for the Ashes in Oz. I suspect it's probably to do with the amount of Twenty20 and 50 over stuff that is played nowadays and getting it all into the cricketing calendar. There is 50 over World Cup at some point in 2015 I think? Also I think I've read that the better test nations won't be playing Bangladesh and Zimbabwe for a while unless they get better(which I think is wrong) so it doesn't leave as many teams to go around on a rota basis if you will!

Bit disappointing that we are playing "the reserves" in these warm up games. I was over in Oz for 2 months when the last series was on, and the way we went about the warm up games showed we meant business (picking the Test XI, batsmen scoring big runs, bowlers taking plenty of wickets etc...) All this seems a bit low key with Australia playing an ODI series in India and the likes of Cook, Swann, Broad & Pietersen not featuring in this match.

Off out to Oz for the Perth and Melbourne Tests with a week on the Whitsunday Coast in Queensland in between. Can't wait!

I think it also takes into account the forthcoming world test championships.

Another great opportunity to beat them for the 4th time in 4 series! :)
