Well Done Racists

Mellor!

There are two points I'd like to make to anyone that would care to read them. The first is this tripe was published in the Mirror, so don't read into it too much regarding closing down stands. The second is that when the chanting started it was very clear to me where it was coming from. Why do the Police and stewards do nothing? Everybody can see how noble the idea of self policing is but at the end of the day 99% of people aren't brave enough to do it (including myself). The Police regularly have cameras at Vale they could haul out the culprits and have recorded evidence of why they did so. Is this not an option? I feel that if one or two morons were dragged out kicking and screaming it's fairly likely the rest would start to realises it's unacceptable?

I think it's a combination of things but key is there has to be consequences if people are doing something wrong. I think there's a number of things that need to take place both during and after any incident:

  • During the game the police and stewards must take action if it is staring them in the face.
  • After the game, if something is missed then I would hope that fans would report it (that's surely a better approach than confronting someone directly) as there should be video evidence
  • Meanwhile, the club must continue to make it clear that it will kick all offenders out and work with authorities. There needs to be an element of educating people as to why it's wrong and not just "harmless fun"
  • And finally, the authorities and the courts must make sure there is a punishment for such behaviour.

In my opinion, it really needs all those things - strong action by the authorities, an element of self-policing and the club relaying the message/educating fans. If all that works together then it may not get rid of it 100% but it will certainly go a long way. At the moment, the self-policing and the club are doing their bit - it's now up to the police/stewards to take action and to hand out the right punishment by arresting/removing people on the spot and convicting them if needs be.

Ultimately, offenders are not going to be deterred if there is no deterrent.

I agree totally. Racism is a crime in this country so why weren't the police earning their ridiculously high fee?

What's this nonsense about shutting stands? You find the culprits and chuck them out - they won't be hard to find.

It's an absolute ridiculous suggestion to punish the club and those that are innocent.

I take offence to Bradford fans and every other supporter shouting 'murderer' at Lee Hughes in a family environment and I don't think Lee Hughes and the club should just accept it and condone it as it appears we have to. The FA seem happy to let that go. This and racism are both wrong and both abuse and should be dealt with by the police.

...and not that this is point but if that's the first time Bradford have had that chant thrown at them then I'll eat my hat. The FA like to make an example of Vale and leave their heads in the sand regarding everyone else.

I think in the case of Hughsie, would he not have to make a complaint first? He could well use the abuse to fire himself up, as against Bradford City, not that I am condoning the abuse. See separate Hughes thread.

How can the Club or FA prove that any one person was making racial chants? Video evidence wouldn't be enough and so would it rely on someone saying that they heard mr x say something?

Apologies for linking to the Daily Heil.

I'm sure Hughes would think 'what's the point'? tbh. No-one will do anything about it. The FA are only interested so they can say 'look how good we are and how we tackle racism'....they couldn't care less about Lee Hughes, people hate him and they wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of people that actually condone this abuse.

I'm glad people are finally waking up and recognising there is a real problem. Shame it's taking the national media and some away supporters to take a real stand on it (although Smurf did make the only promising statement ever on it, previously).

The club need to go a step further and finding ways to pick out the ugly bogans, and ban them. N Staffs police really need to start earning the money too on a match day.

And let's not kid ourselves, it's not just racism they will express, discrimation against any minority can spew from their tiny, pathetic minds. Oh, and all the while it's replaced by cocaine, during the game, in front of children.

Take those blinkers off, if you've not already!
