Adams wants a centre half

So from what I've read in this thread we were really poor defensively last season - yet our goals against record was one of the best wasn't it?

Yes a quality league 1 centre back is needed to help us consolidate but hasn't MA just said that?

So why carp on about it?

He was our best centre half last season, certainly for the last 3 months.

Still not saying a lot especially in our last three months it was a real case of which ones best constipation or diorreeah. Will support Chilvers totally whilst he wears the shirt.

Adams will not let us down we all know the midfield and attack is really great but would worry in league one every time any one with an ounce of pace gets any where near our box.

Looking on the PFA transfer list, there are a few decent targets but none who stand out too much.

Reece Brown is out of contract after being released from Man United. Has league 1 experience with Oldham and Coventry to name a few.

Along with him is Frederic Veseli who was also released from Man United. No doubt a long shot but it wasnt too long top championship clubs were looking at him.

Matthew Bates would be a good signing in my opinion. A small centre back but has pace and has experience after making 100+ appearences for Middlesborough. Been looking for a club after being released from Bristol City at the end of the season.

Matt Taylor from Charlton is also a decent player. Getting on a bit at at 31 but is another who is experienced and would make a good signing to partner Robertson.

Patrick Kisnorbo is also available. Well travelled, another who is experienced and would no doubt be a good signing at league 1 level. Quite slow though.

Thats all there is really on the list but names who have been mentioned like Ryan Cresswell and Krystian Pearce would both be good signings. Ill suppose we'll just have to wait and see who MA brings in.

I think we need two more centre backs - and then ship Davies out on loan as he needs the experience. Pearce would be good as back up, as he is mobile... and then a proven centre half, maybe someone you mentioned who has played in the championship like Matt Taylor would be good.

If Matthew Bates could stay fit he would do a job. He's had 4 bad knee injuries though.

Can't see us paying a fee for anyone.

Haven't Southend turned down bids from Fleetwood and Chesterfield already for Cresswell?

Pearce looked great the last time he was here and I'm guessing that's a more realistic route.

No doubt we could see a couple of triallists on Friday night but the season is almost upon us and we need to sort this out and get the newcomer(s) used to our formation and tactics asap.

We haven't pursued the loan market much under Adams and that could be another possibility. Other clubs milk it. Why not us for 12 months?

This is my problem everyone I have spoken too over the last couple of months have said we need 2 central defenders triallists are a bit late in day unless they are proven league 1 players having said that I thought we employed a scout so I hope its all under control.

Maybe Southend don't want to sell him to a team in their league, especially if they're gunning for promotion you'd bet Chezzy and Fleetwood are going to be up there too...

Is there any one who has played for us before and did a mediocre job. we must be able to afford them on a 5000 at 22 pound crowd Lets get the names out there before we are underwhelmed by the sweetie jar.again. The real problem we will have is that most quality cb s have all retired. Most still would be quicker than Chilvers
