Adams wants a centre half

Tend to agree Mr Carter. With Purse being released and McCombe going, we always needed at least 2 centre halves.

And preferably better as we weren't great at the back towards the end of last season.

Very true Mr C.2 weeks to the season and a position that seriously needs filling.Ok if one arrives in the next couple of days but even then would that player's fitness be up to scratch or would he need some Adams' 'special' training methods?

Duffy and Davis were awful last night . Duffy didnt look interested , Davis was a bag of nerves and got caught in possession a few times. I have warmed to Chilvers but we still need another CB.

I think Ryan Cresswell at Centre Half and also his Southend teamate Sean Clohessy at Right Back would complete the defence.

 

From Wikipedia below on Clohessy, seems consistent, both him and Cresswell in the PFA L2 team last year.

I think Clohessy is on trial at Ipswich. I agree that him and Cresswell are good realistic targets though.

As Adams says its obvious and everyone knows we need one. Chilvers and Davis are not good enough to start in league 1, we need a first team centre half to play with Robertson, if prefer Micky to take his time (as he is doing) and find someone who is good enough rather than sign a below average player.

It was always a priority to sign two centre backs. That's why we've signed one and are in the market for another one, who'll probably be signed up within the next week or so.

Chilvers is a good defender against set pieces or whenever he is 'in position'.

Once caught out of position, his pace lets him down.

I'd personally agree with that assessment of Chilvers, Valex - I thought he looked better towards the end of last season when Griff was snapping into the opposition midfielders, making it harder to play that quick ball foward that might catch Purse/Chilvers out of position.

League One might well be a different kettle of fish, mind.
