Slightly frustrated by Adams comments, every man and his dog knew two centre halves were a priority seems we are leaving it until the last moment to do anything about it.

Very true Mr C.2 weeks to the season and a position that seriously needs filling.Ok if one arrives in the next couple of days but even then would that player's fitness be up to scratch or would he need some Adams' 'special' training methods?

I think Ryan Cresswell at Centre Half and also his Southend teamate Sean Clohessy at Right Back would complete the defence.

From Wikipedia below on Clohessy, seems consistent, both him and Cresswell in the PFA L2 team last year.

"Clohessy has proved to be a reliable and consistent performer throughout his time with Southend, and won many individual accolades during a difficult 2012/13 for the Shrimpers, winning the Player of the Season award, beating Ryan Cresswell and Barry Corr into 2nd and 3rd place respectively.[6] Clohessy also set a new Shrimpers appearance record in the same season, playing in 59 consecutive games, more than any other Southend player in a single season.[7] Clohessy was also named in the PFA League Two Team of the year for 2012/13, alongside team mate Cresswell.[8]

Clohessy turned down a new contract offer from the Shrimpers at the end of the 2012–13 season, opting to move to another club"

As Adams says its obvious and everyone knows we need one. Chilvers and Davis are not good enough to start in league 1, we need a first team centre half to play with Robertson, if prefer Micky to take his time (as he is doing) and find someone who is good enough rather than sign a below average player.

I thought Chilvers was decent last night.

Well, he played and we conceded 1 (penalty).

He goes off we concede 4.

Chilvers is a good defender against set pieces or whenever he is 'in position'.

Once caught out of position, his pace lets him down.

Had a decent game last night though.

I'd personally agree with that assessment of Chilvers, Valex - I thought he looked better towards the end of last season when Griff was snapping into the opposition midfielders, making it harder to play that quick ball foward that might catch Purse/Chilvers out of position.

League One might well be a different kettle of fish, mind.

Adams comments suggest he's looking at unproven trialists rather than proven quality, which is a little concerning.

Yeah, I read it like that too.

His comments that 'we'll look at a couple in training' sounds as if they are just some trialists.
