The best out of contact 11 ?

Out of our reach most of them I guess would like to see some above league 2. Which is better track record or potential. Think rudge s mix of potential and track record worked.

Matthew Killgallen

Nicky Shorey

Thomas Hitzlesperger

I think Rudgie was dealing with a bigger biscuit tin, ITV Digital, pre Bosman. But so what, lots of other clubs were affected too. No doubt still gems out there.

There were not so many restrictions on how many players you could sign during a season in Johns day, I am sure we used about 50 in his last season, Pounewachy, Bernstein to name but a few.

There was a time when many top players were happy to drop down a league or two and take a big reduction in pay just to continue playing the game they loved. Not any more. In football nowadays money talks and fat cat agents pull all the strings.

The problem with many players dropping down the leagues and taking a big paycut is that it massively affects their pensions. It is better for them to finish their career early on a good salary than to carry on for several more years on a lower one.
