I can understand some of the feelings against these two animals and it does make you wonder sometimes why we bother to put them on trial when the evidence is so compelling. The cost of the trial plus £30,000 a year to keep them in jail does seem like a total waste of money, with the only beneficiaries being the lawyers once again.

Giving them a trial protects our freedoms. I'm always amazed people, can't see that. Once we start convicting people without trial, it makes it easier to do for everyone and makes us all less protected, damages our civilisation, and is a victory for the fundamentalist.

Seriously, what if by some bizarre twist of fate or luck they get away with it? Lets hope they dont live next door to you or in your neighborhood eh andy?

PPV it, many people would pay to see these people die for their actions.

Maybe we can host public executions at the local football stadium to show how much more civilised we are than them...oh wait...

If we sink to their level en surely it's a hollow victory?

If by some bizarre twist of fate they aren't found guilty and put in prison, why would they be found guilty and given the death penalty? Unless you are still arguing that the uk should have people put to death with no trial? Either way it's a ridiculous statement. And the last sentence is just a cop out of any meaningful debate. Basically we should kill them without trial in case they live next to me? Bizarre.

I understand the high emotions, and the want for strong punishment. I don't disagree, but if don't want that at the expense of our freedoms or our own civility/humanity/morality. Surely that's a victory to them. They won't be found not guilty. They just want their 5 minutes of infamy. Instead of racing them to the gutter, it should be a reason to highlight the depravity of certain fundamentalists and show or solidarity that we are better than that won't accept it.

They might be found not guilty on some technicality...that is always possible. There defence will I guess be something along the lines of "This wasn't murder this was a justifiable killing as part of a war" as opposed to "I didn't kill anyone"..and if they take that as far as possible.....who knows

There might already be a potential /not caught/convicted killer living next to you..should we lock him up just in case? You might be suspected of murdering someone so would it be Ok to lock you up without trial just in case?

People who advocate conviction without trial always seem, to think it could not happen to them

So the cost implications aren't even worth debate?

Yes they are but we've already gone over them and reached an impasse.

For the record, many convicted killers have been let out on parole or freed and gone on to kill again than people who have wrongly received the death penalty due to a case of mistaken identity in the UK and the USA.

Is anyone arguing that these two should be released in the future?
