No player is bigger than the club, if he is being too greedy then he can go, he can easily be replaced.. And don't forget Yates tht the grass ain't always greener. Look at Richards, artell, Tomo, Rigg... I understand you have too look for more money, but if you want a good career and to go through life with abit of pride and achievement then you stick to what you know lad...

well said....

we are a club now that players want to come to, if he doesnt want accept what he has been offered ship him out... I hate greed in football! I dont believe they will have offered him a rubbish contract either, they seem like fair people to me and will have offered him what they think he is worth.

Did you not read the article?

"It's now just a matter of negotiating, which is something that goes on all the time.Clubs always make offers which are low and players want more.

You often meet somewhere in the middle.

Me and my agent will talk to the club and I'm sure we'll come to an agreement."

It is his job, his livelihood, seems pretty reasonable to me, a local lad, but if a bigger offer comes in he will be tempted, hope he stays.

It's fairly obvious from above posts that some people only read headlines. He wants to stay, the club are playing the offering him a lowish contract knowing he'll ask for higher and they'll meet somewhere in the middle at a figure both parties are comfortable with. Some people need to chill out. Yates doesn't get the credit he deserves or the "he's a Vale fan" plaudits that pope gets.

It's just greed, even if he has been offered £500 a week which I suspect it will be an offer of around £700 - £1000 why are people so greedy!

He must of aspirations of playing at the highest league possible, why come out in the paper and say he wants more money, why doesn't he show next season that he should be playing in the championship to earn his crust, then ask for a pay rise, at the moment my feelings are either take the fair offer you have been given or just do one, no doubt you will regret it when you have a ***** season and get shipped out too Nuneaton because you didn't have a good crack at the whip and made a few errors at the new club... If he expects to move on to a team that are paying more then you end up on the bench... Don't say we didn't tell you so
