Adam Yates on contract

I've been impressed by how well Yates has conducted himself, considering that MA couldn't wait to drop him no matter how well he played. In particular, he played some great games when switched to left back and got dropped.

Interestingly, we've got Bratt and Gannon to thank for signing two of our best players last season.

Some comments on here are laughable. Clearly dont know anything that goes on in a business. Yates has said hes been offered less than what hes on now, would you sign a contract for less money than you are earning now?

As for Tommo, he was offered £100 a week less than what he wanted but refused to sign on the principle, hardly holding the club to ransom is it.

Just out of interest, how do you know TOMMOs offer ?

Is this like Tomlinson last year rejecting us as he thought he'd get a better deal elsewhere? Then ending up at Burton?!

If they don't want to be a part of what we're trying to do, sod them off and get someone in that does.

Dont blame the players at all tbh trying to get what they are worth, they have deserved that imo.

"I'd like to stay with Vale, I'm a local lad and I live 10 minutes from the ground.

"But it's good to know there are options and it means, from a personal point of view, I'm not desperate to sign the first thing that's put in front of me."

This is a piece I don't particularly like... Not desperate to sign... If his heart was completely with the Vale then he should be desperate to sign!!

You see why this is giving the image of footballers a greedy reputation and where I'm coming from....

To be fair, you would have to be mental to sign the first thing put in front of him and dont forget these players will more than likely know what contract Pope got and what other players are on,this is what happens when you go to an higher division(Wildes himself said you have to pay more in wages).

The basic principle is not to negotiate in public. The Sentinel are desperate to publish something about the Vale every day, even if its old news or something anyone with knowledge of the real world already knows. Does anyone honestly think that the other players who are out of contract are not negotiating or that their agents are not negotiating on their behalf?

How do you know lil' old Burton didn't offer him more?

Well run, progressive club who weren't in administration last summer. Tommo probably earned more by moving, just like Yates would've done if he'd gone to Mansfield on bigger money.

True, Just annoying when its the complete opposite. He loves Vale.

That should be apparent to anyone with half a brain. When the Northampton match finished and most players ran to the dressing room, Yates simply turned to the Paddock and awaited the oncoming Vale fans :D
