minutes applause

Because the whole minutes applause thing has got a bit OTT. Newcastle fans started it for Gary Speed and Villa fans as support for Stylian Petrov in his cancer battle and yes, Crewe and Southend did it today for Adam Dugdale. So wouldn't it be better to save it for some of life's serious stuff, and not just the changing of directors at a L2 club?? Just a thought.

What has happened to Dugdale?

Agree with this.

I'm sure the owners would be the first to say that the best way we can thank them is via our wallets/purses.

With you on this one. Think it may detract from a truly meaningful intention of honouring a deceased or serious ill/ injured person. All for applauding Vales fantastic season though and perhaps think we could all show this by turning up and getting behind the lads throughout the match, not just for a special minute? Still I applaud the girl who suggested this idea, it's clear we now have many, many more fans wanting to show support in so many ways. What a difference a year makes!!

I don't think it detracts from anything- a gesture is a gesture and circumstances dictate the context in which they should be taken

So if - and God forbid this should ever be the case - something awful were to happen to any Vale player, how would you suggest respects are paid during the match? Because the minutes applause would already have been done for something relatively insignificant.

I am all for showing the owners how grateful people are a.) lets face it, they wouldn't be doing it in the first place if there wasn't likely to be something in it for them and b.) as the other poster said gestures like this should be retained for their original purpose and not watered down.

Sorry but that's daft. A sign of respect is a sign of respect. Just because it was used as a thank you does not mean you can't do it to note some one's passing etc

Can we not do it once promoted and to say thank you too all people at Vale. The players and Mickey get a lot of credit but what about the back room staff etc.

Can we not get smuf involved so that he gets everyone out on the pitch so that we can thank them all no matter what their job is. We all make Vale a success, the fans the cleaners the groundsmen and women

Personally i hate the idea. No problems with people bringing ideas up, but this one I really hate, and think its the wrong kind of tribute. Cant we just clap and invade the pitch or something :)

If not that, get smurf on the centre spot singing.

Isn't using smuf illegal in this country?;)

I asked for suggestions on The Wonder of you page and it was put forward the minute applause ... This was to thank everyone at port vale football club for keeping our club going . It was just a suggestion !!! The club has come so far this season and its was a way to say 'Thanks' Other suggestions have been made about sing a song for the 11th minute too .. Sorry if people thought this was disrespectful ,but this was not anyone's intention ... We want something to remember how far we have come and if it wasn't for the players , manager , new owners , back room staff, and lots more that turned up not knowing if jobs and football would contunie at vale park ! We have come out bigger and stonger and was just a way of saying Thankyou ... Even if we sang the wonder of you or something to remind people that its been tough going and its a credit to see how far we have gone ! I really hope people underdstand , Thanks

I honestly do think people do understand and no one wanted to upset you or your idea. However I believe that in the main most people would love to show some recognition to ALL Vale players/staff/management/backroom people etc,etc but perhaps not in the way you felt? That should really be kept for more serious issues to retain it's heartfelt sincerity. Someone on here could now hopefully come up with a brill idea for EVERY fan at Vale Park on Tuesday and/or Northampton game to give their thanks to the whole Valiant Club????
