Double Promotion Party?

Recommended Posts

After staring at Teletext for about 5 hours, it seems that promotion is in the hands of both Vale and Cobblers.

Which sets it up rather nicely for April 20th!!

It has an excellent chance of being a double promotion party, for which they would surely bring 1500-2000?

If Sir Wildes does the business with affordable/cheap entry, this match would surely sell out!!

What a top way that would be to end the season.

Aston Villa 5th round early 60s, Vale took lead harry Poole pen?

We played Liverpool in an FA Cup replay at Vale Park a couple of years after that and, in truth, there were even more than the 49,000 that were there to watch the Villa game. Liverpool fans were scaling the walls on the Lorne Street side of the Hamil with rope ladders. I saw it myself.

OK one for the stato's when was the last game VP sold out for? DO you really think we could sell out a League 2 game?

Well judging by last nights crowd and the spaces left around the ground another 3,000 Vale fans would fill our ends. Not sure Northampton would bring 4,000+ to fill the Hamil end.

It is virtually impossible for the game to sell out because Northampton just will not sell 4,000 tickets. perhaps 2,000 to 2,500 at most.

Also there has to be a saturation point, you can't just magic up more supporters, nice as it would be. A number of the 10,000 home fans against Burton were friends and non-Vale fans (even some Stokies). Stoke were not playing on friday, they have what could be a crucial game at QPR when we play Nptn and their fans may want to follow that on the radio or TV even if they dont travel to it.

We must not set ourselves up to be disappointed with what in reality would be a fabulous gate if we get 12,000 or even 10,900 again.

A truer representation of Vale's potential gates for next season will be seen in the Aldershot game at full price. I would rather get a very heathy gate for this game - by which I mean over 6000 - than get too carried away with the one-off reduced prices which cannot be done more than 3 or 4 times a season really.

A crowd of over 6000 against Aldershot (who will bring less than 200 fans, probably nearer to 70 or 80) will show that some of the increase from friday are willing to be long-term fans and be a massive boost to the club. If the gate drops to 4500 or so, then there is a little more cause for concern.

The Spurs cup game in 1988 was sold out, I think home games v Stoke in the league early 90s were too, though later home gates v Stoke were very poor (13,000 then even under 10,000 for the last one at VP).

There were over 19000 v Everton in the FA Cup 1996 which was very close to the capacity too, and if the correct gate had been returned for the Arsenal replay in 1998 instead of a ridiculous 14900 (biscuit tins nothwithstanding) then that game was virtually sold out too.

Plus it may have been said its a League Two game. But when was the last time that we may have had two teams promoted at a game like this.
