I thought Purse was outstanding today Tosh.

 

Not sure if it was my eyes but nice to smurfy in the paddock for the first half and if it wasn't him then he has a twin brother who wears the exact same scarf and looks identical to him.

He was in lorne street at half time as well

Dont know if its been mentioned but great touch by Smurf to sit in the paddock with the fans in the first half. Dont think many people saw him but he was standing, dancing an clapping an having a right good time before kick off.

Purse was outstanding and has convinced me that we are going up. He is just what we needed and is a rock.

Forgot to say earlier that i thought Jones was terrific too,looks like another good find to me.

Not the best performance but a solid and big 3 points. We struggled first half, and as I suspected the first goal was key, once we got it Accrington pretty much fell apart!

Hughes proved why Micky has signed him for me, two excellent goals, 2nd a really classy finish as he was running away from goal!

Purse was a rock at the back, very solid, just the players we need to see through the job!

 

Loft and Burge looked a lot better 2nd half once we had a bit more room to play with, tbh I thought all the lads did OK. Duffy and Jones also had very good matches!

 

Accrington were one of the worst teams I've seen, cynical, dirty and just generally not very good. Some of their tackling was a disgrace(not least the sending off challenge) and that deserves non league football. I hate to say it in a way as Accrington is a good away day(if not always the result for us) and the club obviously has tradition but their style of play and team deserve to be relegated!

Purse today was absolute class, the lad never wasted a ball and is consistently talking to the back 4 and liked it when he gave Neal a talking too for coming for a never ball... Great signing!

He wanted to experience the game outside Directors box and noted how many more children were in the Paddocks/Bycars

makes a nice change players communicating like that.. will help in the end, his experience is invaluable and every defender can learn from it.

 

as for smurf in the paddock it's great to see owners sitting with the fans gives them ideas on what's needed for improvements etc

Fair summing up!Whatever has gone on at Accrington?All their previous games at Vale they have played some good stuff but today they were a disgrace!!!!The Coleman style of play is now history and, should they continue like today, they will end up back in non-league,which will sadden me.

We were pretty ordinary in the first half today and couldn't break them down despite having the extra man.We weren't moving the ball quick enough which allowed them to get behind the ball but Micky must have got into them at half-time and we started the second half a lot better.Very impressed with all the new signings.

I'm told things are phenomenally busy off the park in the Commercial section with many new things to come through. So its good to see the CEO sitting with the fans and communicating and experiencing for himself.

I thought Hughes lost the ball a lot, missed a lot and got offside a lot first half. Also his creative play was not on the same wave length as the others. To be fair he has good mobility for his age and I can't see issues there.

 

In the second half he was excellent in the box and having taken a calm down pill at half time he scored two very good goals and was a constant danger.

 

I felt that Williamson came on and felt the pressure of being behind Hughes in the squad missing the target with two shots and I'm keen we persevere with him because I think he will turn out to be a good player one day.

A game where we had to be patient. After the sending off Accrington were only after a point and although we weren't great in the first half, I wasn't really concerned. After upping the tempo at the start of the second, the goal came and then it was a question of how many.

 

What really got my goat today was the reaction of some "supporters" who booed the team off at half time. I not of those who think booing of the players is always unacceptable but come on. Second in the league, eight points clear of the playoffs and not even losing and they get booed? Have a look at yourselves. Muppets.
