I don't understand why you wouldn't have a keeper on the bench when you can have 7? Keeper may get injured or sent off once, but it could cost 3 points which may be the difference between going up and not.

To be fair, he is extremely young for a keeper and too young to be playing first team anywhere. It could be damaging to his progress. A keeper can go on until they are 40, so plenty of time.

Spot on comments. And dont forget the current youth team who are doing us proud in the FA Youth cup. But how many will be given a first team opportunity. A diificult, but nice dilemma.

I for one am over the moon with all the signings that we have made, Hughes will score goals, Birchall is just too classy for this level, and Purse brings vast experience and influence. However I think the most exciting thing about being a Vale fan at the moment is that for the first time in years, we have a range of young players that have bags of potential who are already good enough for this league! The likes of Morsy, Davis, Lloyd, Burge, James, Johnson all have the potential I think to be top L1 or championship players. When was the last time we had this expanse of potential? I can't remember. I really do believe the future is bright. Experience will help get us out of this league. Our young players will keep us out of it!

another bit of important news murphy has left the club by mutual consent,only played 75 mins for us,didn't think it was that long, yes, get rid of the dead wood although as i've said on another thread i don't include gaz owen in the dead wood 'cos hes been a good servant of the club and he leaves with my best wishes but murphy hasn't had enough game time to pass judgement on his playing qualities.:D

I really feel like it's all a dream and don't want to waken up! The utter mess the last self indulgent bunch got us into and so very nearly costing us our great club still gives me nightmares. I'm not the vengfull type but I really hope they are all feeling it now, watching us rise up the leagues, seeing the players DECENT owners can attract now and in the future! I really hope they all get a knock at the door one day soon to be called account for nill/null shares and GOD KNOWS what else they got uo to in order to save their own self serving skins! Agree sheffield. I'm generally not a vindictive person either but they really got to me with their running of the club too. Yes it's in the past and we should move on to better time but they deserve some recompence for their actions!

We are 2nd in the League and got to top briefly with the squad who all played their part during exceptionally difficult times. We now have added a goalscoring forward and a captain material, solid defender with possibilities of other newcomers. There surely can't be any true Vale supporter out there now who hasn't cottoned on to the fact we are going somewhere as a club with fantastic new owners that appear to be as excited for the future as anyone EVER has been watching the Mighty Vale. Come on you floating fans get down to Vale Park and be part of the bright era that is gaining momentum. Forget all the barren, hard, frustrating years we have endured and give the "new Vale" a chance.

The young players, even Pope, can learn skills from experienced players like Purse and Hughes. Remember Ron Futcher and Bret Angell?

Purse has done a wonderful job in bringing on Curtis Nelson at Argyle after he left Stoke as a trainee.

Nelson is only 19, being scouted by championship clubs.

Learning off a seasoned and quality pro playing alongside you can do wonders for your game.

It's great isn't it. Who would have thought we would be 2nd in the league in Jan at the start of the season with youngsters like Morsy, Burge, JMW and squad players like Yates, Taylor, McDonald playing so regularly.

We are now complementing that with players with experience and pedigree that surely can only be a positive.

Good times, lets make the most of it.
