Had a curry with a Darlo fan on Friday night and wish now I had known more about this before then. The Quakers are now playing at Bishop Auckland in the Northern League, so well down the pyramid. He's very bitter and disillusioned about what happened to his club, but apparently their gates are holding up reasonably well, think he said they regularly got 1500.

I think the owner of the ground wanted too much money, Darlo play elsewhere now in some lower league.

 

If he pulled out of the deal due to not wanting to be burdened by that ridiculous stadium, then to me that shows a decent business head. It has been the cause of all their problems.

Darlo 1883 are now in a ground share with Bishop Aukland and play in the 1st Division of the Northern league, have won 14 and lost 1 of thier 15 league fixtures, gates around 1500.

Norman Smurthwaite?? I've now got this Seth Bottomley type image in my head, flat cap and a whippet...hope I'm wrong!:laugh:

 

He used to be in partnership with Obadiah Ollerhenshaw and Elijah Simmonite at the famous Altrincham financial advisers, The Simmonite, Smurfthwaite and Ollerhenshaw partnership.
