"A loveable rogue who had the vale at heart"

Really? This is comedy half-hour stuff.

Originally a Vale fan yes, but Port Vale was simply the vehicle he used to make money for himself. £212,000 to his car company in one set of accounts for players' cars and the Club mini-buses - which Budget Car & Van rental quoted £70,000 for !!

And please remind me again, just how did his swimming pool get built and paid for?

Always seemed to keep himself just on the correct side of legality, but was often on the wrong side of ethics and morality.

I seem to remember reading that he also had a clause that the players had to top up their cars with fuel from his garage. Not 100% sure how true it was but business is business.

It was'nt Rudgies money in the 1st place although he did make the club a nice pile of cash with his wheeling/dealing. We were struggling at the time and that's why he got the sack. It's the old chicken/egg conundrum.

The money Rudge spent was a fraction of what he earned the club. It was the money he made the club that enabled Bell to spend on the ground etc. Bell took more out of the Club than he ever put in.

Whilst they were struggling, there were other ways to move on without the horrendous ousting of Rudge in the way it was done. It set the club back many years and we're still trying to recover.

I just hope that we get a new owner who will run the club as a good football club should be run - probably got a 50/50 chance of that, though. I've got my fingers crossed.

Its never going to happen but was bill bell a hero or a villan considering the time now after his reign

For me as a businessman he built the hamil end buy buying Chester city's old stand for two bob and a conker had the vision to start the bycars very rarely stopped Jon rudge signing anyone and was at the helm for our greatest. A loveable rogue who had the vale at heart a man us old fans often forget what I for one would give to see him back at the helm

With the hamil end named the bell end in his honour

Thoughts........".......

What a pointless post/thread this is - Bell is an old man and whilst he left much more of a legacy in terms of ground improvements and on pitch acheivments than V2001 ever did -- his time is past.

Hopefully the admin team will get lucky and select decent buyers who can get off field developments going to match the present on field progress.
