Summer transfer rumours/speculation and retained list

Featured Replies

We gave Tolaj a contract and a 1.2m release cause was negotiated which is fine, that will most likely have been driven by Tolaj’s agent. We were then on a position where we had to let him go once this was triggered and it is very likely Tolaj wanted to leave once a bigger club comes in and offers him a higher wage which is all understandable.

Plymouth could not afford to pay the full amount in one go or did not want to- this is the time when the club needed to make more from the deal….pay it all up front or the 1.2m is increased or we have a sell on clause added to the transfer. If this did not happen, then it’s very poor from the club and just letting him go with no fight back whatsoever. Did this happen? I don’t know, but I’d be doubtful it did.

We have a sell on clause as confirmed by Matt Hancock in an interview months ago, and in yesterdays Valiant by Baggers.

Do we know what the sell on clause details are ?

The club can also add in a release clause too that suits them. But at the end of the day both parties have to agree on the amount.

Financially Tolaj, Curtis and Cole were all wins with a handsome profit on one and fees for free transfers on two.

Love him or hate him Cole was an adequate replacement and looked a more likely scorer than any of the current crop.

Our issue was DM had left us so far adrift that both Curtis and Cole wanted out as the window was about to close and the club were left in a position where available players saw us as a last resort and went to clubs in a slightly less perilous position in L1 or challenging in L2.

If Curtis and Cole had remained we'd probably have another dozen goals on the board and a few more wins - For me that's on DM and the powers that be who stuck with him for too long.

Debatable if those financial wins mean a bigger loss getting relegated. Interestingly it appears our biggest losses financially under Carol have been the league 2 seasons, notably the promotion ones even with Wembley and other stuff.

The Carol league 1 years reported more modest losses, even with you’d assume more expensive squads.

Cole was decent, I like him but his dreadful sulk at Huddersfield away when he was made captain was a total disgrace.

Curtis I was never a fan of anyway so you’ll never hear me complain about him going!

Yeah a release clause should be just that, not a chance to set up a payment plan.

Contract negotiations within EFL rules at a point in time, we may learn more of the clauses when he moves.

Even if Plymouth did pay up in full, whatever, it's still weird we are fixating on this.

I'm more concerned with what we've done to reinvest after the sale. Somewhere up to 500K on George Hall, however much on Devante, Marvin, etc spent, not to mention what happened on deadline day in January getting Gray in to little effect.

Surely that's the bigger issue than whether Plymouth are paying in installments or whether we may or may not have clauses?

Good to hear. Nice one. Glad to hear that confirmed

It only helps us when any future sell-on payments arrive either in full or in instalments. I am more interested in future players.

There's no doubt a bigger loss getting relegated but the question was regarding transfers. The bottom line is you get what you can for an unhappy player - they were unhappy and our hands were tied finding suitable replacements because of the league position we were left in by DM and our reluctance to sack him earlier

@TJHValiant,

Do you ever stop to think whether what you post has any rational basis?

Or does it all just pour out unfiltered?

Carol and Kevin founded from scratch a company which was one of the pioneers of automated financial fraud detection and prevention, and then built it up over the following 30+ years to become one of the worldwide leaders in the field, before selling it for a reported £180 million.

"fools" could not even begin to do any of that.

There are all kinds of morons who run successful businesses and have made money. So their personal credentials are meaningless, look at Ratcliffe.

At the football club, which is all I care about we have seen vast losses, a dreadful season, awful decisions on contracts, recruitment, sales, you name it, we have managed it.

I don’t think Carol and Kevin per se are fools but the staff like Darnborough, Moore etc certainly are.

I actually don’t think Carol and Kevin run the club in terms of sitting down negotiating deals, making recommendations for purchases and anything to do with the actual football.

Those who do are the fools and yes ultimately if they don’t learn from it and take action as owners, what else would you call it but foolish?

You have to wonder if the CEO is able to do the job properly yet or still learning it as he goes along.  Can't be an easy job with so much happening within the club - non football and football related.

Shows how good Colin G was when he was there, good experience and offered advice trying to keep Carol and Kevin on a level ground when it came to football matters.

Certainly not Championship ready at the moment.

Who would want to own a football club.

So now Jim Ratcliffe, the chairman and chief executive officer of the INEOS chemicals group, and hence the richest person in the UK, is a foolish moron in your humble opinion.

The only possible answer is that you are a youngster who hasn't yet grown out of opinionated adolescent overconfidence.

In which case, my good wishes for your future development.
