Match Thread - Port Vale v Peterborough Utd

It does in hindsight, I disagree that it was obvious he was going to do what he did.  Just as many look unstoppable in non league and fail at league level as those who go on to crack it.

£1.2m is a lot at our level, I think only Gareth ainsworth has ever left the vale for more than that.  Granted things have moved on since then, I'm not daft.

Its the hindsight that's making it look like it shouldve been higher.  He promising but nobody actually knew.  If it was that obvious, football would be very easy indeed.

Completely agree with the last bit, unbelievable that he was played out wide.  Thank god Stockley had the first half a season that he did.

When signing Tolaj, the deal suited both parties for sure.

Would we have signed him if his wages were double what we offered with a release cause of £2.5 million ? probably not.

I see why you say that - the jury’s out for me.

Thought he got involved plenty yesterday personally, but I think he’s been badly let down by what’s around him. He made that lung busting run 2nd half from inside our half and was crowded out by 4 of them on their penalty area with nobody bothering to get up in support. And sticking him on the wing to me and absolutely criminal.

Yesterday was exactly like the Wycombe game. A team a with a defined pattern of play - which occasionally means going back and sideways but always with the intent of going forward - moving the ball quickly not slowly and looking like every pass is scuffed and/or telegraphed - and with dangerous wide players. The No 17 was really good I thought.

Once again, I enjoyed watching the opposition more than my own team. That’s not to say they were world beaters - they weren’t exactly watertight at the back (but nobody needs to be against us) - but just had a plan and identity. Simple.

I literally can’t remember the last Vale team that played with pace, moved the ball quickly and had pacy wide players.

Just mostly boring, attritional garbage (and I count some of Clarke’s teams in that).

Maybe an Askey team??

Weve had too many years of :

Defence minded systems, overloaded midfields, no flare or creativity, no real wide players but rely on wing backs who are mainly defenders to create chances and few actual goal scorers..

No insight ino the Tolaj deal but a striker who has a good season even though it was in non league will be attracting attention from other clubs. Everyone wants a 20 goal a season striker but no guarantees that when they make the step up they will succeed,  some do , some don't. So let's say players agent is touting him around for250k and several clubs are interested, one wants a í£1.2m trigger release clause another wants £2.5m. From the players point of view, all things being equal it makes sense to sign for the club with the lower trigger release . Also hindsight is a great thing but assuming we paid 250k for Tolaj how many would have expected him to be worth 1.2m 12 months later, not every deal like that is a guaranteed success. Assume Paton deal may have been something similar? I like Paton but is he currently worth 1 .2m? As I say no guarantees .

Ok we lost but dont go discouraging folk who are going to the Huddersfield game ,too not go ,be a good 1100 minimum come fri hats off to each and every single one of these people they are credit too themselves and PVFC ,there the heartbeat there the ones who deserve see Vale not only stay up  but fly up that league literally ..

Peterboro /Plymouth are getting it together , whos to say Vale cannot after seeing the last 2 home games v these sides funny enough there no better than us and remember we have a massive list of injured players and at play Debs in a position he should never have too play .

Like i say new day ,enjoy your xmas maybe the next 20 games we will take our early chances, and then there be no coming back for opposition

Yes after sat id have said we are down (mainly because the manner of the defeat as if Lomax comes on for Clark hes a natural defender and that goal doesnt happen and we go into closing stages looking for winner

Not to be lets see what today brings .

Maybe sands of time caught up with Moore ,maybe hes the luckiest manager in the whole efl because most chairfolk had of ridden of him and not be  be accepting of the results he has achieved ,quite damning 15 points out of 20 games ,how he is still manager well its bizarre and quite embarassing for him .

Not embarassing for the support ,we cannot head the ball in for them ,choose the tactics we can only say what we see ,and its not as of 22nd Dec 2025 being good enough .

Everybody has too be better moving forwards

Cole had 2 good seasons at Barnsley, how was he used?

Like I said. Each to their own. If you can afford 100 quid or so to chant and get angry to an owner who isn’t listening then good on you.
I just think it’s sheer stupidity and anyone outside of their “love” for the the club would think likewise.

You once had loads of " love " for the club. Or were you stupid.

You know yourself weve had owners who never listen to fans.

Come to think of it are there  " any " owners who really listen to their fans on the terraces.

He faced Vale and Barnsley scored 10 on agg .

Yes we need  find the way he was used, if its with a big striker like Stockley then Vale need find a system where our crosses are met by JS and Cole is there too fire numerous goals in .

As off the 22nd Dec we are not getting the best out of him ,yes he is working hard i appreciate that ,but we need to get  him facing the oppositions goal and get him in on goal quicker what originally happened when joined and Paton sent him through v Exeter with the ball of the season .

I still maintain Jordan Shipley  has the quality too make things happen the lack of use of him when we have had a 0 by our name 7 out of 10 games at home is ludricous he has a belting shot on him and the goal he scored v Fleetwood ok in vertu cup showed he wants get in there, the lack of use of him for me is flabberghasting use him he could be the key too unlock the door .

He wont be if he cannot get on v Peterboro when midfield quite clearly after C Hall went off were outnumbered .

Again DM not seeing how too rectify the opposition ,somehow after Vale should be 2 up minimum taking over the game as they had control putting shipley on would disrupt there control ,as Walters and Croasdale would not be outnumbered ,but DM just left it be and i sat there head in hands as you could see a defeat coming a mile off, as we had reliquished control of game ,all on DM for me that.

Beneath the ‘ho hum, drinking with Hoppers, and what will be will be!’ facade you’re quite an angry man. Very very quick to get nasty with people. Perhaps talk to someone about it?

How’s the Happy Clappers Club coming along? Hasn’t been mentioned in a while?

Jesus!  Have you listened to yourself and the bile that comes out of you and how much you hate Carol and Co.

We have to listen to you banging on about how much you hate her every single day.

I'd like the man gone, too. And yes, it's not looking good for us. BUT I will carry on giving me love for and supporting Port Vale until my very last breath - even the. I'll want to be buried in my Vale shirt.

You carry on hating m8. You carry on.

Don’t hate Carol. Think she’s a good woman who means well, getting this completely wrong because she doesn’t think the average fan knows much, as we saw in 2023. She’s wasting millions through a lack of football expertise and a refusal to learn lessons.

I was extremely positive about her and the club in the summer, but have had my mind changed through perhaps the worst 4 months of PVFC’s history on the pitch and a refusal to address the problems causing it.

You're no more a Vale fan than I am simply because I’m more critical of decisions which are actively harming PVFC.

I’d argue that true Vale fans with the club’s best interest at heart will call these decisions out. I’d do it more directly if there were any direct lines of communication like a fan’s forum, but they aren’t turning to SC meetings or hosting any. They’re hiding behind a monthly CEO YouTube video where there can’t be any follow up questions.

The minute they open up a manner in which I can directly put these criticisms towards them, I’ll be first in line, but there aren’t, so I’ll continue to vent on here.

I support Vale extremely vocally at far more games than you go to, home and away, and put more money in, and as I love PVFC and not just the current incumbents of the boardroom I will continue to call out these decisions actively harming our club. PVFC is far bigger than the Shanahan family.

Don’t make an equivalence between ‘not criticising bad decisions because I love Carol more than PVFC’ with being a super fan. PVFC will always come first.

Whatever. Yet your quite happy to cut people down who dare not agree with you. You're also quite pathetic in how you howle when any disagrees with you.

Calling me angry when you bang on and on...

Ridiculous
