Tbf to the lad he's not from the 7th tier, its just where he went on a non-contract basis to get fit and work with a former coach. His last full time contract was League 2.

Yes, we all want players with profile and played in leagues above, but we've got a lot of players with experience in L1 and the Championship already who are not performing.

It doesn't seem to mean a whole lot.

He's under contract until the summer and replaces Jesse, who himself came from non-league Halifax anyway.

Maybe a slight upgrade on a player, nothing special, but we are bottom and seemingly no money to spend so what are people expecting?

He has come from the 7th tier. Doesn’t matter what happened in the summer or whatever he was unlucky or not.

He has come from playing at Workington, bottom of the seventh tier.

From the sounds of it he had offers in the summer but either turned them down stupidly or wasn’t anyone’s first choice. But as of last summer he has not been playing a league level. If he gets thrown in today don’t be surprised if he’s rusty

If he wants to go then get him gone,I dont want anyone playing for the club who wants out BUT as i said previously any monies made from these deals has to be spent on a striker currently scoring goals even if that's at a lower level and now while there is still that slim chance of staying up...... if the club have thrown in the towel in January then that's a disgrace for me considering we spend our hard earned money on supporting the team

So, you believe everything that you read?

Far as free transfers go, I'd rather a player on a free in January come in with a bit of match fitness personally, good luck finding one of those that isn't on non-contract or overseas from a league that's just finished. Would it be better if he had been rotting on a free since last June without a club?

And before you ask I have my reservations about the player too but will see what he's like today as he's probably going straight in the team.

I'd like to be signing players who have been playing regular first team football in L1 or the Championship but here we are.

For anybody else following social media, etc, does anyone find it weird the numbers of people going on Bromley, Tranmere pages to comment on how much they'll miss the players we've sold that we've deemed not good enough?

Sometimes I wonder what league fans want us in.

Exactly this.

Some fans would rather players be rotting away for 6 months before we signed them rather than take the initiative to play for an ex coach to build fitness so they are fit and ready for an offer from an EFL club.

Workington literally posted that on their socials that that was the agreed plan for him

Tightening the purse when constantly bringing in decent fees for players and 3 very good cup runs is not a good look imo.

Suppose it depends on how much has been spent over the purse in the first place

I think the question is, why did no other league team sign him at the start of the season?

Im stuck between having given up and thinking its not worth wasting the money, and being angry the club has given up and is having a fire sale, so why should i even care.

My big worry is momentum though. If we go into league 2 not looking close to winning a game it will effect not only season tickets but i fear it could continue into next season. Ultimately they need to stop the rot somehow.

If we make no more signings I think this goes down as the worst transfer window for port vale. Worst I can remember anyway.

Yep, if this was Smurthwaite there would be complete uproar. It’s exactly like the 16/17 Jan window. Carol getting largely a free pass from a decent amount of supporters.

This isn’t a defence of him btw, purely just pointing out how badly managed we currently are.

He’s been very lucky that Brady is now back in work. I doubt on one else was going to give him a chance, his lack of experience means no one probably would give him a reference or a second look.

Signing Magloire isn't really the issue. The issue is that he is the ONLY signing this month, bar a young winger in on loan when we are criminally short on wingers.

I am feeling pretty much the same after last weekends total shambles now acknowledging how poorly are club is being run from top to bottom on what should of been an historic season for all of us to enjoy.

Jon Brady recently said we're a tough sell for players to come to, and maybe this is where we're shopping because of our position. I just hope there's not some darker reason why we can't get anyone to come.

I hope wiki is wrong then as it has his height at 5'8 🙂 having said that though it has Archers height at 6'2 now if that is right then i must be 12 foot 4 🙂

Take player heights with a pinch of salt. There is no reliable source of data for it. Wiki is only as good as it's sources, and with player heights then the sources are often exaggerated, out of date, or just plain wrong.

Well FM26 has Ruari Paton's jumping reach as 14/20, people get things wrong 😄

But you don't need to be tall to be a good centre half, just look at Lisandro Martinez.

Completely agree on your second paragraph. One of the greatest centrebacks have seen is Fabio Cannavaro and he was 5ft9. Height is one of the most overrated things ever for how good in the air you are. Just look at Mo Faal who barely won a header despite all the measurables.
