Match Thread: Reading v Port Vale

Featured Replies

Tomorrow id go

    Gucci

John Debrah Hall

Gabriel                 Gordon

       Byers Walters

            Headley

Paton Faal

I like the pace and tenacity of Gordon and Headley on at same time Headley just hits it he could well get a hat trick in a game soon .

Byers comes back in for me and id put young Rhys in too run the midfield

Curtis has for me been superb in his work this season ,(unselfish for the team on tues he was in left back spot tackling and clearing the ball )so not easy leaving him or the superb Croasdale out of starting xl  but there ready to burst on pitch from subs bench if needs be and BG also .

Id like see Paton and Faal lets  hope they connect as a pairing .

Humpfreys  unlucky miss out ,but i think them extra inches of Debrah will result in a goal from a Curtis /,Shipley off bench or Headley corner .

Wins are coming when i have no idea but we just need keep playing well

Theres a lot of players who are playing well like ojo who might not even get on .

The way to go as i had said pre match v Birmingham, is with pace and width Gabriel ,Headley backed up with Gordon certainly gave us that .

Not a lot wrong with Vale just need that confidence and belief to convert some chances

One day we will hit 5 or 6 believe in yourselves ..

Reading 0 Port Vale 1  J Debrah if only selected v Doncaster he had of headed us ahead .

IMO the silver lining to Tolaj going is that we look a better balanced team with the 3-4-3. Tolaj was great but wasted on the flank and not a target man. DM said before the season started we would be multi dimensional this year and the squad certainly reflects that. How do I join the happy clapper club?

I agree that there is a chance that by losing a talismanic forward (who had a tendency to be understandably selfish with decision-making), we actually get a bit better as an overall unit - as much as folk won't like hearing it.

The last time we were a competent League 1 side we had AJ Leitch-Smith up front top-scoring with 10. We finished 12th on 65 points and were only 4 points from 8th and 9 points from the playoffs. We just had a very good midfield, back-line, and keeper.

The freedom to play different systems so that we aren't tied to 'what works best for Lorent Tolaj?' may start getting the best out of the likes of Garrity, Richards, and Curtis, all of whom had to adapt for the wider team shape. We may also see adapted roles for Headley, Waine, Paton, and Shorrock.

There's more than one way to win a game of football. It'll be interesting to see what Moore does. 352 served a very good purpose with Tolaj but maybe it's time for something fresh.

Xg is something daft dreampt up by fantasy football players and mangers. Expected this, that yr the other is just b8llocks as any person who is married or played football knows. .. I expected the wife to love , honour and obey....that <ovf censored> soon went out the window. When playing armature foot ball I expected all the players to play nicely,to the rules and in the spirit of the game. Yeh lots of 6ft plus pub defenders explained that expectation are only valid if you MAKE THEM HAPPEN.

It's just analysis.  That's all it is.  It's nonsense to you but not to others.

There are some ridiculous, early 2000 named stats (because you know, putting x in things was cool) attempting to be trendy though, like xThreat 😄

xG has its place but most people don't really understand it, or what it means when aggregated in the post match stats.

And most of the time, a lot of people don't realise that stats are there to supplement the eye test, they are not the be all and end all and don't capture nuance.

Once I was clear through on goal and everyone, well all 10 spectators, expected me to score but some daft wench behind the goal flashed her <ovf censored> and guess what.....the expected didn't happen.

Whst i like about this Vale they play like a team

You can see it a mile off a comraderie ,hard work and no lack of skill .

DM team last years team  started slowly and lost 4 -0 too Barrow then as season went on got tge results  there performances deserved v Cardiff alone a better performance from team than any last season and tbh i aint exactly being coming away from defeats fuming as there self imposed .

All to play for

Come on Vale

Results going change for sure

Im 1 million per cent certain

Perhaps the opposition had analysed the statistics on you and established that you finished a lower percentage of opportunities when there was a pretty lady stood behind the goal. They employed the said lady to flash at the opportune moment and therefore expected you to miss.

All XG does is show, that it is more likely that if you create more high quality chances over a longer period of time than give away high quality chances to the opposition, you are more likely to do better in your respective competition. It isn't exactly groundbreaking. The good news is that we are currently doing well at both, if we can get someone to kick the thing into the onion bag, we'll be olrayt.

Not a must win game but a potentially hugely pivotal one given that defeat could mean we are bottom of League 1. That is somewhere we don't want to be even this early in the season.

So more x rated than xg 😍

You don’t need XG or to be Einstein to work out that the more chances you create, the more chances of scoring and by stopping the opponent creating chances guess what less chances of them scoring.

This statement is tongue in cheek by the way 😂

Has anyone had any experience with the GP one

Apparently it stands for getting pissed the more drink you have in a pub the more likely you are to get pissed, the less you have to drink the more chance of not getting pissed it’s brilliant lol

i can see this catching on 🤣🤣🤣🤣

And we must remember to factor in the TF quotient which pensioner described ...
