Whilst you can only beat what's in front of you and with respect to them,  Carlisle's last two wins were v Newport and Morecambe ......

They will face a rather different beast on Friday afternoon....

😁😁💯❤️👍👍

They certainly will , and Vale will be very hard to break down , with Carlisle leaving gaps all over the shop.  I don’t want to sound overconfident, but I think Mark Hughes will have a few more grey hairs on Friday evening.

That was Friday. Our allocation was 1,450 and looking on ticketmaster, no tickets left so looks like sold the 1,450. Not sure if they'll give us anymore given the enormity of the game for them too. Imagine we'll ask, but not really expecting them to give any. Be a shame though when there will be an empty stand behind the goal. Realistically how many more could we sell? 5/600? Hard to tell with us, maybe another 1,000 given our form and being a bank holiday.

this a team fighting for its life and they won by four against Morcambe last week with Mark Hughes in charge and mark Bridge wilikinson as coach this isn’t a given and we need to be at our best

So what else might you not 'mention" out of concern for your fellow humans, drugs, alcohol, war, self identity, car accidents? It's a slippery slope and you're hurling yourself down it.

Think your hoop is a lot larger than mine.

There is a time and a place for all those conversations, but for me that place is not a football forum where I have no idea who I am speaking to.

We can agree to disagree. Have a nice Wednesday.

They won 2-0 at Morecambe.

No way is this an easy game.

Taking the emotions out of it and nerves, it's 23rd v 1st.

They are 23rd for a reason, bear in mind their previous home game they were 2 down at home to Newport, yes a fantastic comeback but Carlisle have been pants all season.

We respect them but certainly don't fear them.

I think Vale need to do what they have been best in the last 7 games. They would have beaten Barrow on another day so it could have been 7 successive wins.

Focus on their own game not the occasion or the opposition. Apart from Bromley, in the last 4 games,Crewe,Walsall and Bradford all had chances to affect Vales promotion chances and improve their own,so our squad knows how to deal with pressure and expectancy.

I would rather be looking at trying to get enough points to go up rather than being another game closer to being out of the league. That's what Vale will focus on and if it isn't another win on Friday then there's still another 3 games. Sitting at the top with a 3 point cushion is where anyone would rather be.

Clubs that Carlisle have picked up points against in 2025:

W Fleetwood (13th)

D Colchester (8th)

D Gillingham (17th)

W Barrow (15th)

D Walsall (3rd, playing like a relegation-threatened side and bottom of the form table)

W Bromley (14th, we've just beaten them 5-0)

D MK (19th)

W Newport (18th)

W Morecambe (24th)

Their best result is a goalless draw at home to Colchester, which is a very decent point. They beat Barrow under Whing, but their revival didn't start until the game after.

Otherwise, they're getting their points against bottom-half sides, including Morecambe, Newport, Walsall, and MK who have probably been the worst teams in the division this calendar year.

Anywhere near the standard we've set with our first-choice team playing over the last 7 games and we're not losing this. I understand that they're fighting for their lives but Bradford, Walsall, and Crewe were fighting for promotion.

The pitch dimensions of Brunton Park are exactly identical to those at Fleetwood, so it’s a very compact pitch. Keep our shape and don’t get drawn into a scrappy fight.

I know every game now is a cup final ! But this one really is! Win this then that really puts pressure on all the teams around us. I really hope we continue with the performances we have put since the second half a against Barrow, if we do then we will be very unlucky not to get something from this. Come on you whites.

Astonishingly, it is only 50 years since Carlisle United played their sole season in the top flight, and now they are teetering above the Football League trapdoor.

Ah, I'd forgotten, Carlisle previously dipped out of the League for a season in 2004-05.

Will be a shame, not nice seeing sides like that with their fan base in non league whilst the likes of Salford are in the football league

I don't really understand why they're so crap.

I think the next step over the coming years will be evolving the National League to become the full EFL3 (fifth tier), with 4 up and 4 down with EFL2.

Though of course that just migrates the problem down a level, and there will still be proud former League clubs playing below the Football League's then four divisions (+ the Premiership).
