Summer transfer rumours and speculation

Rumoured on X that Marcus Forss is moving from Middlesbrough to a League One club. Transfermarkt values him at £2.2m so guess it’s not us, though thinking about it, for a free-scoring forward like him it would be worth pushing the boat out. Chances are it would absolutely make our season and restore morale across the club as well as secure our place in L1.
Fantasy? We need to think carefully whether it would cost us more to go back down. If only…

I think that would be a much bigger risk than not signing anyone. It would be hugely financially irresponsible for a club like us. Let's say we sign him for 2.2 million. He gets a season ending injury by October. We just can't take that kind of risk just because of Carol's benevolence

We don’t want to sign players because they could pick up an injury? If that’s the case, shut down the club.

what nonsense.

Read my post. That wasn't the point I was making. But you knew that. Very easy to spend somebody else's money with no risk isn't it?

Let’s just keep signing the likes of Waine and failing every time we reach league 1 then.
Football ain’t cheap. Owners do have to throw money at it and we have just received 1.2m for Tolaj.

No risk, no reward

No reward, no success

No success, no future

In situations like that wouldn’t we have some sort of insurance policy?

No risk, no reward
No reward, no success
No success, no future
That was probably the Bury mantra as well

No idea, but if we did, I imagine it would cover wages for the period of the contract, not the transfer fee

Imagine?

It seems to me that as well as forwards who actually could hit a cows @rse with the proverbial banjo,  we also need more creativity in the opposition half.

Rico Richards looked the most threatening player almost every game he played last season, and yet he’s not even in the bench this year.
Is Moore worried that his precious formation might be compromised by someone who runs at defenders?  His teams are like a poor version version of Pope up front on his lonesome under Rob Page and just as boring.

Just a reminder, before the window closes, of the total individual goal scoring record of our strikers in all seasons in the EFL:

faal 13

brown 1

waine 5

paton 1

curtis 52

stockley 113

I can’t imagine many bigger risks to our League One future than relying on a strike force - aside from Stockley (who is injury prone) and Curtis (who isn’t a striker) - with this track record.

Fingers crossed we pull something off tomorrow.

Garrity 29, Shipley 28, Byers 19 makes it look a bit different though?

Yes, I agree it does but my post was focused on our strike force without which we cannot rely the few goals scored from midfield, however helpful. We don’t set up with a scoring midfield, which makes us even more reliant on our strikers. That’s my point 🙂

It doesn't matter who scores the goals though, they all count...

Clubs insure most of their valuable players so a career ending injury shouldn’t be a financial problem. Forss would be a great signing but 2.2m seems far too much for a player who has only averaged 6 goals a season for the last 3 seasons in the Championship. If we get him for half that then definitely worth a look at.
