I dont really know much about Scarlett, does he have pace? could be ineteresting if paired with Brown

Would the majority on here be happy if we signed Scarlett?

I've got Gab blocked as he gets on my <ovf censored>, so I'd not seen that. Agree with you about Cole. If we want a League 1 goalscorer, he is exactly that. We won't get any resale value, but he will come in and score goals, which should keep us in the league.

I think staying in the league is most important. We can’t keep dropping down to League 2.

The majority on here will wait to judge based on at least 10 full games. The rest will immediately think he's amazing because they've heard of him and noted his value on FM, or crap based on a Wiki scouting mission if he hasn't scored 15 a season elsewhere

Gives us chance to add to promotions 😀

I've only seen Youtube clips, myself. But he can run, carry the ball, dribble, and has some technique with the ball at his feet. Some of his goals come from outside area, so he can find the bottom corner. In terms of role in the team you'd have him in the Tolaj role next to Stockley/Faal/Brown, where Curtis currently plays.

But the clips say very little to me, all depends how Moore uses him. I'd expect a depth chart to look like:

Curtis/Scarlett/Waine/Paton Stockley/Brown/Faal

...probably end up going 343 considering that many.

We need a permanent signing as well imo. Its all well and good signing loan players, but if one comes in and scores 10 goals before January, they'll just be recalled and we'll be in the same situation.

That is something a lot of Vale fans dont give players........time

Let’s not forget the usual suspects didn’t give Tolaj time last season. He was written off early doors.

I think the novelty of getting promotion from league 2 is wearing thin. The first Wembley Promotion felt incredible but the last promotion felt more like relief for me. I felt we had to do it. Carol had provided too much support and stability for us not to expect promotion.

Unfortunately it isn’t just the strikers. Byers has been massively dissapointing and takes up and big wage. Dare I say it…can he be moved on?

Broadly speaking tomorrow may need to be a bigger shake up than just bringing in one striker.

We can't be relying on loan players especially forwards, they do well then it's goodbye in January.

I feel we've gone for quantity over quality with forwards.

The two rumours which continue to stick with us are Scarlett and Cole. Both have people talking of us at the clubs they're currently at.

We've also been linked with, at one point or another, Tovide and Graydon.

The tone Moore took on Saturday and his general ruthlessness we've seen so far (Smith released, Ripley jettisoned, Paton loaned, the overhaul last summer, Chislett bombed out) indicate that he won't be afraid to do unpopular things tomorrow and will quite happily cheese off a lot of people. He genuinely seems to have zero sentimentality and we might see one or two surprising departures, or sign a player which might annoy an existing player.

If I had to guess (and some of these loans will be after the window closes as they're non-league):

Outs: Paton (loan to the Scottish Champ), Shorrock (loan to lower League 2/upper National League), Lomax (National League North/South), Hart (possibly mutual termination, off to League 2).

Ins: Cole, permanent 2 year deal undisclosed, and an attacking midfielder/winger from a Premier League academy.

Would leave us with, each position in descending order of importance in my personal opinion:

GK: Gauci, Marosi, Amos

CB: Humphreys, Heneghan, John, Hall, Debrah

WB: Gabriel, Gordon, Clark, Headley (though I see him as more of a winger)

DM/CM: Walters, Croasdale, Byers, Ojo, Shipley

AM/W: Garrity, Curtis, Rico, new loanee, Waine

ST: Cole, Stockley, Brown, Faal

I think there would be space for one extra player under the registration rules, if we wanted to add a free agent as we did with Harper last season. Always useful if an injury or two crop up.

I honestly think 352 got the best out of Tolaj but 343/4231 is the better approach moving forward.

I do agree that if we don't stay up this year (a massive if imo) then it is going to dampen optimism a lot for a while.

Fans won't feel they can trust upward momentum anymore and the idea that last year was a complete waste of time will be quite difficult to recover from. Promotion will be met with the assumption of 'straight back down' and you simply won't see the 10k attendances, 6,500 STs etc. The club will become hard to trust for the new fans we've managed to attract.

From her comments pre-season I doubt Carol stays involved if we go down again. It'll likely become the Paddy Show. From the manner they both spoke about 23/24 I genuinely can't envisage they'll take any chances it happens again. She was hospitalised last time and genuinely considered giving it up.
