Port Vale v Barrow match thread - 25 March

One thing I did Garner from last night, which a lot of us know anyway.

Debrah and Smith can't be given the football with time on their hands.

Both utterly clueless and bereft of ideas. I realise at times ,in fact very often there was no movement ahead of them. But some of the punts and hoofs were terrible.

Nothing but hit and hope. Both in the same backline is not a good idea.

Smith didn't play till was it New year's day and Debrah was rightly jettisoned. So fortunately they haven't played too many games together.

I don't look forward to another 8 games with them as a pairing in the middle and on the right side. Sadly I think that will be the case.

Absolutely that was on the manager.

Picked a poor midfield pairing, watched them get outnumbered for 45 minutes before changing anything.

Everyone could see our shape needed changing after 15 minutes but he just leaves it.  We then get more of the same in the 2nd half and DM waits until 75 minutes to make the attacking changes.

I’d love for someone to tell me what our tactics were 1st half. We looked like we had zero plan. All outfield players were so static it was astounding.

Yet another home performance where  failed to even attempt to play on the front foot and get after a team.

Sorry Ray this is squarely on the manager. It’s no coincidence we struggle against teams at the bottom at home. 3 of the bottom 4 were draws and we only beat Morecambe due to a bit of worldie from Curtis. 19 home games and DM has still not figured out.

Its not good enough for a team wanting promotion, to be honest we don’t look like a team wanting promotion.

Whilst I agree he got the starting 11 wrong let’s not make things up, the subs were brought on at half time not 75 minutes.

But Darren's set the team up like that all season , I just conner see him changing his mindset for these next games but to be fair there's nowt wrong in being optimistic

That's all we can do--fingers crossed!

Add Connor Hall to that list as well. Continues to kick it into no man’s land. He’s piss poor on the ball, it’s actually ludicrous he’s being suggested as our player of the season. Give over 😭 We need to bring in some ball playing centre halves next season who can actually pass a ball, control a ball & don’t look all wobbly at the knees when they’re near the ball. I’m alright for one head it & kick it defender but not a full back line of them

First half you get the ball you charge up the pitch they had the ball numerous times , and just banged it forwards ,it was horrible watch but I did tell you that be  the case ,or they slow and cumbersome and look at the ball and show no confidence when have it .

You cannot play them together one or the other .

If have John one side, and you have Clark the other, you change the dynamics of the team in possession, however you leave yourself a bit lightweight at back .

It's all about risk taking like Wembley Gibbo ,one side Hall the other the dynamics of that is we a much better team who go through field quicker and create more goal worthy chances.

I'd play one of Hall Debrah and Smith and the 2 mentioned in run in .

It will change the dynamics of oh s--t Vale are going for it  and going at teams from all over including the back .

All good play starts from the back, how quickly they move it creates, the space further up the field .

Booting it long that's national league level and worse still moving at one mile a hr to make a five yard pass is Sunday league level .

Oh and just to add those who were/are saying Moore has to go and yet can never come up with a replacement,If Moore was to leave I would be straight on the phone to Barrow to poach Andy Whing who at 40 has a lot of potential going forward as a manager in the EFL and that's coming off someone in League and National League football

Sounds like your on a wing and a prayer there

Any manager worth there salt would have sent his team out all guns blazing telling them to press and harrass the opposition at every opportunity and be on the front foot from the start and I couldn't have imagined Micky Adams starting that team Darren picked yesterday there's not a bloody chance in my opinion

Agree. But unfortunately Darren Bore believes Vale's future rests on the likes of Deborah! For some reason he thinks he is a footballer.🤭

"The better team in the first half had a deserved lead ..." - this is true.

Then during those second 45 minutes, we hit the woodwork four times and had a nailed-on penalty turned down.

Meaning we were much the better team in the second half and deserved at the very least a draw from the match.

But, of course, you cannot notice those facts since they rebut your negative agenda.

That’s right, throw out false accusations, <ovf censored>. Over 90 minutes we were the better team and we are easily a better team than Barrow but after our first half display we had a mountain to climb. It was not a stonewall penalty, could have been given but would have been a soft penalty to be given, nailed on, your having a laugh but you’re only saying that to suit your own twisted agenda.

Agree, Hall is no better at passing but for division 2 him and Smith are decent defenders and it is very unlikely we will find a quality defender who can distribute the ball well at this level.

Read my post again, attacking substitutions.

Like for like subs at halftime.

Halls passing has been way off key.

The difference between him and the other two from last night is he can drive with purpose and go on forward runs bringing the left side into play.

Debrah and Smith just look like a puppy chasing a balloon.
