Port Vale v Barrow match thread - 25 March

Featured Replies

Folk are saying this was all on the manager, not true, a huge slice is on the players.  An absolute shameful performance first half, totally outplayed and out worked by a Barrow side who have little to play for except pride.  Fair play to them.  The bare minimum is to run around and compete for the ball, beyond that pass to a teammate. I’d like to know what the excuse is for that chalk and cheese display.  Not one player left the pitch at half time with any credit.  Connor Hall for example, garbage first half, totally different player second, and he wasn’t alone.  All of them found an extra 20% from somewhere, so where was it first half when we were a goal down and strolling around like all we had to do was turn up?

The biggest criticism of Moore would be why not start with your strongest side with a view to having a better start and more chance of scoring first, rather than bringing the better players on when they have less time to impact the game, or, worse still, when we’re chasing the game.

First half we played like a team who were told don't bother .

There was nothing in thst first half I found acceptable .

We lost the game because of the first half .

However as someone who went the game you got be kidding me if you think we didn't deserve equalise cause we did ,yet we didn't

Footballs a funny old game

Port Vale should never play a game on a Tuesday again .

It was ridiculous how there goalies saved that header from Debrah and Stockley ,we hit the bar twice Tolaj and Stockley  the post, should have had a penalty ,I couldn't believe the difference in teams mentality from first half slow cumbersome lot .

Attitude all wrong first half ,there winning goal well Garrity should block it or someone should have and Amos should have saved it .

11 men on pitch 11 on second half I'm scratching my head at why the second half performance which was very good was light years away from first half where we played like a team who couldn't be arsed

I like to think of it as a sum of equal parts creates the right balance. Throwing in some inferior players disrupts the equilibrium and all of a sudden the quality players lose there prowess

I do feel for the likes of Harper and Hackford. They’re not involved for weeks and then expected to start and play well. It’s happened too often with players this season.

I know what you’re saying SH but that’s too negative for me. If you are a fringe player and you get the opportunity to make your mark in a promotion chasing season, you should go out and take your chance big time. Otherwise, it simply looks weak and uninspiring.

After tonight, Crewe away, followed by Bradford and Walsall, I am now fearing the worst. We could quite easily lose all three games if the Tinkerman carries on like he is.

They did run round and tried to compete unfortunately there was no midfield to balance the side the second half was marginally better because DM suddenly realised his tactics  were wrong, the extra 20% came from the fact the side was set up to attack, totally DM's fault.

Prowess?  Are you having a laugh? Do they also lose the ability to run quickly and compete for the ball.  Forget prowess, we’re talking about basics.  These are professional players with a shot at automatic promotion.  What about pride?  They shouldn’t need to be booed off and given a tongue lashing at half time.  They should have the motivation and desire as individuals to be better than their opposite number.

Let's face it, Barrow were <ovf censored> and we were even worse. Good finish by the lad to score but we had enough out there on the pitch to win it.

Hindsight is great, but how many of us were upset to see Smith and Garrity start?

The real issue, and does lie with the manager, was the selection of Hackford over Tolaj and Harper over Walters.

Chislett or Richards instead of Tolaj, and Croasdale instead of Walters, I could have understood, but not the other way around.

Nevertheless we played well in the second half and should have won the game based on that 45 minutes, but ultimately we weren't good enough.

Moore's interview on the radio he was asked about the team selection and it was the first time he even sounded remotely annoyed by the question as to why he made changes, emphasising the squad over individuals.

I've been a staunch supporter of him as none of us know enough about what's going on behind the scenes to make a qualified judgement, but he surely must know that he got his team wrong tonight.

The question is will he learn from it for the next three games?

But the players picked are significantly worse than the players they replaced - and they were picked through choice.

The drop from Clark, Tolaj, Walters, and Croasdale to Sang (at RWB), Hackford, Harper, and an unfit Garrity is a chasm. There's a division's worth of quality between them.

It's not rocket science. We played badly when 40% of the outfielders were not good and better when they were replaced for good players. Good players also make the rest of the team better. Messi would have struggled in that side tonight.

We could also win all 3 and be top...

...and then we'd lose to Bromley and Carlisle.

I dont think I've seen Vale play as badly as they did in the first half ever! Darren was talking about motivation, but the only team showing any, was Barrow! Barrow have nothing to play for , so it was disturbing to see their energy and motivation was above ours. They had a gruelling game in London on Saturday, but had far more purpose than us in the first half. We never once got into the penalty area, incredible really.

I feel this was a very important game wasted. We may have a squad but four changes were too many and unnecessary, at this stage of the season our best 11 please. If someone isn't fit or needs resting okay, but those who came on in the second half didn't look like they needed a rest.  We were unlucky to lose after hitting the post so many times, we played some nice football and again the crowd were superb second half and really lifted the players. Unfortunately we lost the game due to the first  half no show. One shot first half, 13 shots in the last half hour A golden opportunity lost to make real headway I feel . I thought my birthday may have had a good ending but Tuesday hoodoo strikes again!

Tbh I couldn't think of the word I wanted to say and prowess came up so I just went with it but as for everything else that you have said I really couldn't agree more. I can't stand Moore and I jump at every chance I can to bash him on the many occassions like tonight that he seems to excel in really f*****ng us up but the attitude of the players, given the chance that they have found themselves in, absolutely disgusts me. If I was a player I would give everything because, as you say, there should always be professional pride but also they are so privileged in that people use their hard earned cash because they believe in the players that are there for them and I would feel so obligated to give back to them. This is what has angered me more tonight more than anything else - even more than Moore

So you took nothing positive from that game .

I come away really happy with what I saw second half, on another day we put 3 or 4 away, with that level of performance, yet I've come away from some games we won and thought that was naff ,tonight we lost ,and I am generally looking forwards to run in because of the second half .

Sometimes you lose ,you dont go overboard about it, you take the  positives and move onto the next set of fixtures.

Tonight's second half will see that we win 2 of the next 3 in my opinion .

On the downside any more first half's like tonight and  we be finishing mid table .

I'm.a optimist though that second half will put us in good stead for remaining games .
