Port Vale v Newport Co match thread - 18th Jan

First things first - we are NOT 3RD in the league (unless covid strikes again or Putin starts WWIII)

Wimbledon need 1 point from 2 games to go above us, Notts County 1 point from 1 game, if either Salford or Bradford win their game in hand then they also go above us.

In effect, we could be in 7th place.

Looking at other results elsewhere it was vital to win today and we did, it wasn't pretty, it wasn't easy but the 3 points are all that matters in the cold light of tomorrow.

We have 11 home games left and 9 away, if we can maintain our away form that will be fantastic, but we simply must improve our home form. That process started today and whatever we think of the performance over 90 minutes, the effort and commitment shown in the last 30 minutes  is what we need - but we need it for 90 minutes, not 30.

It's over now, we move on.

I understand your point about games in hand, but we ARE 3rd, because that depends on points, not games played. The most you can say is that we may not be third at some later date.

Hackfords pace is useful but his finishing is useless

Hackford has played 100 less minutes than Paton and he has 3 goals.

3 points 3 goals and lot of positive displays especially second half .

The crowd were great and if anything that's what I take out of today .

There were very  good signs today .

John flies up the field and Clark and Headley also it becomes front foot football  and with classy Tolaj and Stockley .

Thought Harper was good also linked it well  along with Garrity .

It was so good see a Vale who were going forwards with intensity last 35 .

Keep it up at Home

Your very lucky that they drank it...ide have pished in it FFS

If it was a Carling or Fosters it wouldn't have made a difference  tbh but you've crossed the line if you piss in a Guinness its the holy grail of beer

That was as hideous as it gets for me. Sick of Darren Moore’s “stay in the game” ethos. They were a really poor side who played some nice football because we were so passive in the first half. Second half was a marked improvement but annoys me even more because why can’t we do that from the start!

Moore was let off the hook today by an opposition manager who seemed hell bent on keeping the same side on the pitch. A decent team puts that game to bed first half and we don’t recover. When will we learn.

I’m trying to be positive and hoping that this may just be the kind of game that we needed to create a bit of siege mentality and galvanise the players but fear that next week we will just revert to type.

Big shout out to Mitch Clarke today who I thought really dragged us through along with the other subs. Not been convinced with Harper and he still has a lot to do to convince me he is good enough but second half he really helped us by simply passing the ball forwards!

Well, what can I say? After an hour my mate that I persuaded to come must have been thinking that I had something against him. Then..... Bosh, this previously unknown team suddenly appeared, passing the ball forwards, players running, winning second balls and, well actually playing football. I'd forgotten what it was like to be enjoying a game of footie at Vale Park.

Well done lads, more of the same please.

Let's not forget, it's division 4 football. Not the Premier league. It's not going to be great all the time. A win is a win. Too many people try to over a analyse things. It's poor football. But fun.

One of Wimbledon games in hand is at home to Crewe who will then of played one more than us .

Swings and roundabouts.

If my aunty had balls she'd be my uncle.

Sorry Darren, I forgot to add that I would expect the Wimbledon v Crewe game to end in a draw and Wimbledon to win their other game in hand.

Hope that clears it up for you 😉

And in this modern world of ours, can you be sure your aunty hasn't got balls ?
