Match thread: Port Vale v Doncaster Rovers, 31st Aug

Featured Replies

Poor result, especially considering these lot played in the week & we had a free week. I expected a sluggish start to the season without necessarily expecting the free for all at the back in the past 2 x games.

16 x new players, same old Vale.

Newport away & then a decent Chesterfield at home. I think things will get a little worse before the tide turns.

Moore isn't going anywhere folks. Don't waste your breath. This league is renowned for teams coming good once they've settled. You see teams go on ridiculous runs of form later in the season.

Mindset is a massive thing & despite all the new players it still feels like last season. We've got to become hard to beat before we start trying to kill teams. We're still a soft touch at the min.

Tactically poor today. The long ball to Ruari is a joke. Curtis rightly taken off at half time. Benicio on a different level.

Molyneux & Sharp killed us. First goal was a good goal, great first time ball & great finish. We couldn't handle their press. Different game as soon as them pair went off.

Sack him tonight.

Silly silly comment because you know 100% that it wont happen

I like the majority am very unhappy/angry with how the League games have gone so far,as it stands it's been a disaster but i also know that Carol will not sack a manager with a new squad after 4 games BUT the pressure will start to build on Moore thats for sure. What is it 4 wins in 25? well every man and his dog knows you wont stay in a job unless that improves and i hope it will improve,i still back the manager as i do with most i give them time but time will slowly be running out. Carol has spent a lot of money and wants results/promotion

On a side note Ryan Lowe is available,a very attacking manager 🙂

Yeah then someone needs to be making off the ball runs. Too many players were too static. If you’re criticising fragility in defence isn’t that an argument for being more negative??

We've been playing negatively since the back end of last season and carried it through to this season

They could've been 6-1 up in that second half. 3-2 flattered us, but we were garbage again. I wasn't convinced by Moore but was willing to give him a chance, but he's making it really difficult.

Why will we come good? What evidence is there to say for certain that under a wolly like Darren Moore, we will just come good down the line?

It's already evident that Vale have some good players which DM has bought to the club, they just need to be molded into a team.

You're not wrong, I just don't want him to receive 100% of the blame when the individual performances from our defenders have been shockingly bad. Heneghan has bricks on the bottom of his legs

That's why you need pace alongside Heneghan. The only defender we have that can actually move at speed is Debrah.

Ultimately we've signed lots of good attackers and have a negative manager that will have no idea how to get the best out of them either individually or collectively. And the defence is as poor as ever. It's not a good combination.

Take aways from me:

Cover, Tolaj, John and BBB good.

Croasdale excellent again.

Garrity really wasted deep.

Paton will never contribute played like he is.

Kyle John at RCB? WTF

Darren Moore - The 'name' that a load of you were clamouring for because you'd heard of him. Backed to the hilt by Carol but seems absolutely clueless. Playing Garrity where he is unforgivable

Yep, I was one of those simply because I thought he was a good organiser & man-manager (he must have something about him to inspire SW back from a 4-0 deficit and nearly keep a wretched WBA side in the EPL). But golly, how wrong was I? I was prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt last year, but he’s spent a small fortunate making us even worse in a lower League! You couldn’t make it up.

And you think Moore is absolutely capable I guess?

On the plus side, only another 4 1/2 years of this to come.

I really shouldn't get into this but it boils my bag sorry.......... we have only got 4yrs of this if he is a success(unlikely at the moment) other than that this 4 or 5yr ball cox is nonsense

If Moore thinks Garrity should be used in a defensive midfield role he really needs to find another trade as management is not his thing. Absolutely terrible today, so many things wrong with the way we play, slow ponderous passing along the back line, nothing played along the floor when we try to get up the pitch, everything seems to be played at waist height, aimless high balls to Paton, I could go on but why bother. It's like watching the Dog and Duck

That's basically just a load of oh well nevermind because it will all come good in the end...

Reality is, under Darren Moore, it probably wont.

Yeah absolutely, we could play 5 at the back and do fine but we need to be able to control possession and play further up the field, not possible when you have defenders that can't run and can't pass

I’m giving Moore the benefit of the doubt, for the moment. He must be waiting for Byers to get up to fitness so he can play alongside Croasdale, releasing Garrity to play further forward. We desperately need a midfielder who can pass a ball.  Similarly, he must be waiting for Stockley to get fit, and then everyone can play off him. Darren must know this, right?

Go back to the start of the season and I was as positive as anyone here. I said Moore gets a new chance along with owners. But I already see that he hasn't changed, and never will. He's a massive hindrance to what looks a very capable League Two squad on paper, despite the glaring issues at full-back. I really don't need to see another 10, 15 or 20 games under him to just come to the exact same conclusion.
