Match thread: Port Vale v Doncaster Rovers, 31st Aug

I’m giving Moore the benefit of the doubt, for the moment. He must be waiting for Byers to get up to fitness so he can play alongside Croasdale, releasing Garrity to play further forward. We desperately need a midfielder who can pass a ball.  Similarly, he must be waiting for Stockley to get fit, and then everyone can play off him. Darren must know this, right?
Ray Charles could see that based on Stevie Wonders commentary. Let's hope you're right

Go back to the start of the season and I was as positive as anyone here. I said Moore gets a new chance along with owners. But I already see that he hasn't changed, and never will. He's a massive hindrance to what looks a very capable League Two squad on paper, despite the glaring issues at full-back. I really don't need to see another 10, 15 or 20 games under him to just come to the exact same conclusion.

You were, I'll give you that. And it lasted for 2 hours [emoji23]

I really shouldn't get into this but it boils my bag sorry.......... we have only got 4yrs of this if he is a success(unlikely at the moment) other than that this 4 or 5yr ball cox is nonsense

Yeah mate , you're spot on there's definitely a release clause in there  👍

I honestly don’t think it’s too early to pull the plug on Moore.
The man is totally clueless and probably needs a break from the game.

Nothing is going to change with his tactics.
Any fan expecting rip roaring football all of a sudden should give their head a wobble.

He is who he is. A decent man. But he’s not for this football club. He’s so far detached from the fans it’s untrue.

The right thing needs to be done now. Carol needs to get rid. Come October or November, when we’re 16th and 12 points off a play off place isn’t the time.

Darren Moore is like going on a date with a girl four times and you know she’s gonna cause trouble and grief but you keep dating her because you hope things are going to get better but deep down you know she will never bring you happiness.

Get him gone or just resign Darren.
No hard feelings as he’s a good man but he’s not Mr Port Vale and never will be.

Unfortunately I have to agree with you.

On the back of last season and how already, this season it’s seemingly the same story but with different players.

The first couple of games we looked solid and now we are letting goals in at an alarming rate.
It’s a results business and that is what will determine Moore’s future.

However it’s his decision making in signings, in tactics and in almost every part of management that disappoints me.

I would love him to make me eat humble pie but I wouldn’t put much money on it.

Oh to be a Port Vale supporter !

As the 3rd went in, the nagging thought I've been trying to repress was impossible to ignore any longer.

Moore doesn't know what he's doing.

I've desperately tried to stay positive, tired of being critical of PVFC. Carol tries her best and I desperately wanted all her money and work to pay off. I quite like Moore as a bloke. Seems very nice. I was forcing myself to believe it would come off. Fair play to those who were braver earlier.

Where to start with that?

The lineup made no sense. John at RCB and Cover at RWB was a very inexperienced right side. Garrity and Croasdale were overrun. None of the forwards seem to know what they were doing. They started the first 20 very well and pressed the life out of us, before inevitably tiring. We looked alright for the last 15 of the first, and it was a very nice goal. Here we go!

Again, for the third league game in a row, Moore has been done at half-time by a better manager. There were two problems to my amateur eye:

1. The back-line was too high up. Sharp was dropping deep, dragging the meandering Hengehan with him, and Hall and John's natural aggression meant the pace of Molyneux was kyroptonite.

2. The midfield had no control. 2 v 3, and Garrity would get dragged out trying to press. Every time they broke, there was no screen for the back 3. They had a clear run on us every time. We didn't need 3 centre halves against Sharp. One should have been hauled for Byers, and gone to a 4231 to match them man for man.

Moore didn't see this. If we're going to play a high line, we need to keep the ball and press high to ensure they can't get out. We didn't do that. We played a high line but ceded the ball and the middle. It was absolute insanity.

I can't see what we were trying to do today. We didn't press high, but played a high line. We didn't have any runners from deep, but were playing hoof into the channels.

We have to concede that he tactically hasn't a clue. He has any many coaches as some Premier League clubs, but no one could see what was blatantly obvious to the average fan.

It was absolutely awful. There was absolutely nothing positive to take. Doncaster were miles better and should have won at a canter.

I've tried to ignore it. He has the CV to prove he can do something good. Since he left a club where his budget was magnitudes larger than most of his rivals, his record is abhorrent.

I desperately hope he turns it around, but I'm not seeing the signs that its coming. He's had 23 games now and he seems to be getting worse. He consistently doesn't react to what's in front of him, seems to make things worse at half-time, and plays completely the wrong formation.

His only hope is a quick switch to a high-pressing, simple 4231 with Tolaj as the front-man and Garrity, Chislett, and Benicio behind him. Byers and Croasdale sitting.

I have a nasty feeling Carol is going to be forced into a very difficult position in about November-December because I seriously can't see the signs that Moore is going to turn it round.

Agree with all of that.

And you think Moore is absolutely capable I guess?

None of us know either way at the moment.

With so many signings DM doesn't know his best 11 at the moment, 9 new players started for Vale today,  contrast that to Donny where I believe most of the starting players played together last season.

So Moore's record 3 league wins out of 22 , 16 new players he keeps saying he wants them to make partnerships but continues to chop and change line-ups /tactics , no set plan, new players in interviews say Moore was one the reason they came ,well if they don't sort it soon he'll be gone

I'll be absolutely blunt and say that there's a very fair argument that we sack Moore soon and get Pete Wild in. That was that bad.

Can anyone name one quality performance under Moore since he's been here?

No and that is a massive worry

Not one game have i thought wow this is great stuff

Oh well we have to wait and see what happens but if i was Carol I would certainly be speaking to Moore to find out how he is going to change things and stress to him how it has to change very soon

If Moore thinks Garrity should be used in a defensive midfield role he really needs to find another trade as management is not his thing. Absolutely terrible today, so many things wrong with the way we play, slow ponderous passing along the back line, nothing played along the floor when we try to get up the pitch, everything seems to be played at waist height, aimless high balls to Paton, I could go on but why bother. It's like watching the Dog and Duck
