Better from Swindon in the second half, chesterfield could of had it at the end. A good game. When chesterfield settle they will be a force.

Sky now showing Swindon clapping there fans as if they've won the league lol. Dobra and Greggs are the ones to stop for chesterfield I think.

Seen it enough with Vale that when in control of a game if don't fully capitalise on it then you always risk throwing away a game you should have won and it's happened here. Chesterfield will be strong this year, most of their good stuff goes through Dobra so if he stays injury free they'll be up there.

DC loses his first game for Barnsley.

Though Chesterfield's left back looked good and Dunkley is a presence at the back. Midfield lacks legs.

Swindon were direct to Smith but looked OK in the second half. Freckleton in particular.

Early days but if tonight’s game is anything to go off we’ll be absolutely fine. Roll on tomorrow 💪🏻

We have not won many first games of the season away from home in our history so I would happily take a point.

Both sides looked dreadful I thought. Chesterfield slightly better

Largely agree I thought the quality was poor. Swindon looked really poor, defensively especially but a mile off the side we saw in the play off season, no football purists now! Gave the ball away in dangerous areas and lots of swiping at the ball.

Chesterfield better but an awful goal to conceded in the Vale class of defending with the backing off regardless of how well he hit it, ran unchallenged 40 plus yards. Looked well below the quality we saw week in week out from teams last year in league one so nothing to fear as long as we perform to the levels we hope with this squad.

It’s League 2.  What we don’t know is if that’s going to be the level, plus both teams still looking to strengthen so should improve.  I agree that Chesterfield were slightly better overall.  Several players impressed but nobody really stood out as outstanding.

Don’t mean to hijack the thread but I’m buying a ticket for myself and my lad as we’re coming down from Leeds for the first home game of season and just wondered where the best place for him to experience his first Vale game will be.
I can’t decide between the Hamil Road and Paddock. Hes 10 so would like him in and around some of the atmosphere.

All depends but I take my 8 year old grandson and have been in both the paddock and Hamil.  But he loves being behind the goal and loves it.  Don't think that helps you though

Struggled last year. Funny if they went out the football league 😂

Not funny but would love it 😇

Win lose or draw tomorrow, let’s not go all bi polar.

It’s a 46 game season.

Many twists and turns.

We won’t be winning the league if we win.

We won’t be National league if we lose.

No idea what the side will be today. I do suspect Tom Sang will start with John on the bench. It's a new season and a lower league, so hopefully a fresh start for the player. He'd not really had a lot of first team football prior to last season and some of it was at a lower level than league 1. I'm sure the coaching staff will have looked at what he needs to improve and the player himself knows he has this season to secure his future as a professional footballer.  Mitch's injury is a massive opportunity for him. Let's hope he takes it. Defending is something players can improve.  Watch kids play in the park and their natural instincts are to try to play like Messi. One thing he can't improve is his lack of pace. That's a big problem for a wingback but there are plenty of good fullbacks who aren't that quick. As things have panned out this is perhaps the best opportunity Sang could have hoped for in terms of both the new formation which perhaps suits him and injuries to a player who would have started.

Matchday! It’s felt like an absolute age since I said that even with the Euro’s & Olympics, off to Blackpool with the rugrats for a few days. Safe journey to all the travelling Valiants. Be loud, be proud & hopefully bring back a point or 3! Away Awayyyyyyy ️
