This forum makes me laugh sometimes.

Doom and gloom one week.

Positivity and optimism the week after.

On top of that, throw in discussions regarding Barry Bannan signing (who would have to take a 70 / 80% pay cut).

It's a football fans forum.

What do you expect?

I never wanted AC as manager because there is no substitute for experience, especially when the going gets tough. I don't like giving managers their first job and apart from the exception that was Sir John every other period of relative success in my time as a supporter was with an experienced manager at the helm. When I watched his interviews in pre season last year my opinion of AC remained the same i.e. negative.

Having just sat through the replay of last nights meeting I am feeling much more positive than last season. I think DM has a clear idea of what he wants from his players and, more importantly, a clear idea of how to achieve it. AC had the first but lacked the latter. That's the difference experience makes.

I look forward to a busy closed season of ins and outs and I am feeling confident that we will at least make a fight of it next season.
Gordon Lee was before your time then?

We really do Warren. An awful set with a weak underbelly.

Your point 1. We have 2 maybe 3 " best players " . They need to stay and be supplemented by players of similar ability.

The season just finished we won 3, drew 1, lost 1 v L2 sides. I'm counting the penalty shoot out game v Crewe as drawn. We had a bias in home games, but also a bias in playing teams at the top end of L2 in Wrexham, Mansfield and Crewe. So that's 10 points from 15 possible if these were L2 games. That would be enough to garnish 90 points plus over the season and put us well in contention for the L2 championship or automatic promotion.

In these games, we gave the young players a chance, but also had access to our loan players. So we can speculate.

But I'm overall pretty dismayed by this we will struggle in L2 stuff with the players we have. It is just not supported by the evidence from the season just completed and we have time to be better equipped by August.

I feel a lot more upbeat after watching it. I have more confidence in Moore and his team to build us a competitive side.

Sounds like it may become a bit more ruthless down there which is needed.

We also had Arblaster and Devine.

Interesting that the club aren't looking for another DoF but Darren Moore is going to assume that position/responsibility (If I understood/interpreted what was said correctly). So presumably all the recruitment staff will have some reporting relationship to DM or to his assistant.

That system should work for a club Vale's size as ultimately DM is responsible for the first team, tactics, performance and results, the buck stops with him. It's even more responsibility for DM so I hope he's good at delegating and is given the extra help needed.

Darren Moore is just doing what all managers did before directors off football turned up and he will know that the buck stops with him if it goes <ovf censored> up
