I would like to see Josh Thomas back and given more of a run in the team (not likely now I know) but always thought he was by far the sharpest of last years bunch of "strikers"

There’s definitely a player in there! I think most Vale fans took to Josh Thomas 👍🏻

Kevin steggles every long ball he played down the line ended up in Lorne street
He was woefully bad

So true. We used to say that when a Vale player kicked a ball aimlessly out of play that he had Steggled it.

Anyway back on to transfers
What’s everyone think we need ?

I’m thinking

Right back cover although Ojo has played there in the past

Right attacking mid

Big no nonsense beast of a centre half

Another striker now Loft has gone

Aligns with my thinking but wonder whether Curtis is also being thought of us CF cover.

So attacking players you could play in a 4-3-3:

Tolaj / Stockley / Dipepa / Curtis - ability to play in centre

Shorrock / Plant / Chislett / Curtis - ability to play wide

So attacking players in a 4-2-3-1

Tolaj / Stockley / Dipepa / Curtis - lead the line

Tolaj / Chislett / Garrity / Byers - as a 9 or central attacking CM

Curtis / Plant / Chislett / Shorrock - wide players

It's such a delicate balance now for squad depth and managing playing time. Arguably we need to keep getting Dipepa minutes or his value will fall.

All about opinions of course but I think Loft would be pretty close to taking one of the forward spots in an all time "rubbish 11".  I've probably seen 1 or 2 worse but they played fewer games(loan/yts lads) or just never came with that much expectation either.  Simon Eldershaw for example from the youth team was completely out of his depth but probably never actually started a game.  Marc Goodfellow on loan was pretty atrocious from memory.

Kyle Perry wouldn't be far off in terms of goals, he must have played a similar amount of games to Loft and never scored although part of me felt he was desparately unlucky a time or two and did try his hardest, he was just never good another on ability and had come from non league to start with.

Richard Burgess was poor but in his defence did score a crucial goal at 0-0 against Aylesbury that dug us out of the fertiliser when they were on top with about 20 minutes to go so I'd just about let him off.

All things considered, as we paid a fee and he managed 35 games Loft would take some beating. The Burton/Bristol Rovers games aside I don't think we saw anything in the other 33 appearances.

Now I know I will get shot down here and not even sure they would deal with us again but I wouldn't be opposed to Tezgal on loan from the lardies

One hell of a prospect. No gun shots from me mate, I’d be all for this 👍🏻

I’d say Loft is the worst forward I have seen at any league club. I remember going Huddersfield where Eldershaw scored, he wasn’t that bad plus he was really young. Loft had nothing, couldn’t hold the ball up, for his height he wasn’t that good in the air, he was never in the right position, his finishing was shocking, couldn’t pass a ball and for most games was bone idol. He had a decent 45 minutes at Burton but that was mainly because he put the effort in. I think the club have done wonders to offload him to another football club, let alone a league club.

I was sure Ryan Loft had now left the club & joined Cambridge 🤔

The whole package I don't disagree, if you add it all up.  Paid a fee, number of appearances, lack of goals there would be few who would trump that.

Sorry my faut for going off topic.

We all know how bad he was. He’s moved on now, would be nice if some of the fanbase could too

I think it's likely to be somebody in that ilk now or a released Champ/Prem youngster 20-22 yr old.  Did I see someone linking us with the John-Jules lad again yesterday?  He wouldn't be a bad fit either now if the budget stretches, may have to fight for his place initially behind Stockley/Tolaj but has good pedigree coming through at Arsenal and had a few loan spells in the lower leagues.

John Jules would be a huge risk. His injury record isn’t great. Makes James Wilson look robust! However he is very talented & as you say got great pedigree, wouldn’t be against a short term deal maybe until January see how he gets on myself
