Do you watch the Vale for the football or the victory ?

This applies to a number of clubs not just Vale. I try to stay till after the final whistle but a large number of people around me leave if we are losing. The same seems to happen to other teams, I am not sure why you would travel half the length of the country then leave 10 mins before the end.

So my question is do you watch them (vale) no matter what the score or do you only want to watch if we are winning or have a real chance of winning ??

I can see your point but come the end of the day ive seen so many gutless performances and its obvious some players couldnt care less so ive left (half time sometimes). I dont mind losing games but I want effort and desire, ive been most proud sometimes when the boys have stood up as men and battled but lost if that makes sense? Its the manner of defeat that counts.

I think a lot depends on peoples parking situation and the need to get home?

Also you can also see how the game is panning out and that makes a big difference as its pointless hanging around if you are 3 down as against one down and throwing the kitchen sink?

Ultimately for myself its whats in front of me before i decide.

It annoys me more when the players have played well and fought hard for a win, and people go early to avoid an extra 5-10 minutes in a car park queue than clapping the players off at the end. I like to stay until the end, and only very occasionally have left early (the Morecambe game mentioned above being an example).

I can only think of a couple of times when I've left early... I missed west Brom's 3rd goal.. that was a bad day, I just wanted it to end...... and I missed the last one of 6 against Norwich.. needed to queue to get an Everton ticket... the rest I have just endured...

I watch Vale 'cause I love the sport of football, to watch football in the flesh, although its not to brilliant on occaisions, to see footballers do things with a ball I couldn't, the excitement and despair. My grandad together with my mate and his dad first took me when I was 5 and its carrying on a tradition. I don't watch Vale for the victory, at times in the 70's they were so bad and the crowds so poor (2-2.5k) we wondered why we attended games. I support Port Vale and the English National team, when they score a goal its jubilation, a goal at a club game not involving Vale is usually nothing to celebrate.

I've never left a game early, much better to sit and reflect on the game and let the crowds go.

I am with you on that, I never leave early. Even when we were 6-0 down against Swindon a few seasons ago. Crowd were singing the Great Escape in a slighly ironic style.

When I was young, it was the points and the victory that were more important to me, regardless of how they were obtained.

Now I'm an old beggar, it is the performance, the entertainment and the 'value for money' that are more important to me. This does not mean that I'm not bothered about the points - I am, - just that now, they don't seem as important as the other, aforementioned things!
