Might not get over the line but Ollie has met with Paul Warne at Derby about a loan move until the end of the season.  Sheff Utd are happy to let him go but seems strange to play at the same level as us when he was clearly settled here?

Not sure where that's come from but the local Sheffield press seem to be damping down on the Derby rumour. They suggest he's been recalled to train with the first-team.

According to their article (quotes from Wilder) -

  • Wilder suggests he's had League One experience now "He's ticked the box of playing in League One" (so the unsaid conclusion is - why send him to another L1 side?)
  • So if it was to go on loan it would be to Championship - "We could put him out into the Championship, I suppose" (again, the unsaid conclusion is that is unlikely)
  • However, it also says that Wilder's main reason for getting him back is to acquaint him with training with the Sheff Utd first team squad - "We feel he's better with us. We could have put him out but we wanted him in the group and learning in terms of our demands as a coaching staff and as a manager" (obvs he can't do that if he was on loan)

Again you go on to talk about the benefits for Arblaster, the individual, which also proves you're missing the point. What would Utd gain from that?

Utd would get a player that would be buzzing most weekends because he's winning, gaining confidence by playing in front of a big crowd instead of being on a downward spiral most weekends.

Are you saying that if Utd are going to loan him back out to a League One side then he should have stayed at the Vale?

Just bizarre that people can not see the benefit of playing for a club at Derby or a club actually in the top 4/6

I'm amazed Bolton have not gone in for him because the Bolton manager and the Director of recruitment at Sheffield United are big mates

To be fair Rob, the journalist is using quotes from the original article for when he first got called back.

2 weeks is along time in football

Derby`s 5th season in the 3rd tier in their their history since 1888, just 2 seasons in the 50s when Vale have been n a higher league. They maybe in L1 but their crowds and facilities are of a higher league and would give a different experience for a loan player if that is required.

Derby, for example, are historically a bigger and more successful club than Stoke City.

Think Alan Nixon first reported this and his story on his Patreon just said they were watching developments while Sheff U review his future it and any chance of it would only be at the end of the window. I don’t know if he’s met with them or what the intentions of Sheff U are but it seems to suggest they’re happy to let him go is jumping the gun rather.

Yes and no because they've already made that decision and recalled him from what they will view as a really successful loan in mens football. Played lots of minutes in a key role, had to play a mix of possession based and games where he's been off the ball and had to defend. All great experience. But they said it themselves, the L1 box is ticked, hence they recalled him.

Maybe best we agree to disagree as going in circles.

A footballer`s life, an injury and a change of manager, things happen. Review in February?

"He" - this wasn't his decision.

It makes us look bad because Sheffield United apparently think that a league rival is a better place for him to develop. Just their view, but still an insult to us.

It makes Sheffield United look bad because they've done us dirty.

It makes Wilder looks bad because he is on record as being a liar, stating that he intended to play him.

Derby are ten league places above us. It's absolute <ovf censored> to recall him from his loan and send him to Derby. Do not justify it by saying "we're only little old Port Vale". Absolute <ovf censored>. Crosby, Flitcroft etc would be seething if this happens, not that it would do anyone any good for them to vocal about it, would just have to suck it up.

Again, I emphasize, this is only if the rumour turns out to be true.

I can’t imagine that the clubs, manager or the player will care how they look and it’ll be forgotten about as time goes by. He wasn’t our player and was never going to be, there was a recall clause and they’ve activated it. We knew that and so did he and there’s nothing we can do about it no matter how “upset” we may be.

It could well be for any number of reasons. A new club could have wanted him in January on loan.  The player could have wanted to go. The parent club could have thought he’d be better off somewhere else. They might want him around their squad. Who knows. But where he ends up next is nothing we can worry about whether it’s in this league or not, certainly something we can’t control to get bent out of shape about.
