Colchester played with one up front, like we do. Its a bit like saying Cullen is a bad striker because Pope started some games.

Pope was our top scorer but spent time on the bench.

Which is why I was excited about Maynard. As he is better than both.

but like I’ve said, I’m coming around to it.

Come on, stop moaning and give the guy a chance

Then moan if he’s no good

I never like the idea of goal bonuses. Makes players greedy.

According to social media Maynard will be on a 15K a goal bonus for Mansfield. Surely that can't be true? If it is that's ridiculous and no wonder it threw a spanner in the works in regards to us getting him.

I heard they’ve just offered a far better basic wage. Nothing in relation to a goal bonus. Still more than a league 2 should be paying imo.

As long as it stays within 1.5 mill in total.......

15K does seem ridiculous but I'm only going off what I saw from a Mansfield fan apparently in the know.

As I said before, it will largely come down to money. It could well be Maynard's last serious contract of his league career and so who can blame him for wanting the highest total.

It's easy to forget that being a footballer is still a job with a workplace. I know I do my best work when I feel supported by my manager and have everything in place to help me succeed. Last time round, none of that was true for Theo at Vale.

What JA, Carol and Kevin have done is completely change the workplace for the players. That's why some are doing better than we expected (Burgess, Conlon, Joyce etc.) and everyone offered a contract signed it.

Also, for what it's worth, he seemed like a good kid in his interview. JA definitely values character in players. Upsetting the apple-cart at this late stage would have been a mistake, so I'm pretty happy with the business we've done.

I'd describe all of our summer signings so far, Mills, Whitehead and Robinson, as solid if not spectacular. Rodney is a prospect. But they all seem good pros and won't upset the atmosphere Askey and co have built within the dressing room. Our biggest positive this summer was keeping the squad together and managing to keep Nathan Smith at the club as he looked as good as gone at one point.

Here is my take on this signing,i for one am happy with it,we sign a striker who has scored 1 in 2 over the last 2 seasons,is younger than Maynard and has signed for us despite a lot of interest including offers from league one,he HAS NOT played us off and taken the pee out of us over the last few weeks.

Vale fans go off what he was like when he was last here,i agree he was shocking BUT he was playing in a dour poor poor negative side with no creativity at all,i cant wait to see what he does in a creative, attacking, pressing team... please give him a chance, what is it with vale fans that we rip into new signings, good experienced signing for me and will score 15+ for us imo in this side

Ok, so Robinson didn’t do too well during his last spell at vp but he’s been a prolific scorer these past 2 or 3 seasons and he’s far more experienced now. Even if he hadn’t played for us before he’s a striker most of us will have heard of.

great signing in my opinion.

Was I a touch underwhelmed, admittedly I was.

However he played for us in a higher division and has done ok in this division. As others have said more importantly he wants to come here.

Not long ago we had a subs bench with Dan Turner and Danny Elliott. The fact we even spoke to Maynard is testament to where we are now.

Every year we hanker for the marquee signing but let's trust JA on this.

Can I just add this point, whether or not you are excited, really downbeat , or a bit in the middle. Can we not just respect a fellow supporters opinion without some of the antagonistic posts I've read which have turned into in fighting .

We all want the same thing, let's get there by agreeing to disagree without insults.

Welcome Theo and good luck at Vale

Confirmed on vales YouTube, it's Theo Robinson.

Very positive and upbeat interview, says how much different it is from when he was last here,he seems the kind you want in the dressing room

If it’s the lad from macc I’ll be happy. He ran the show against us last season.

If it’s Theo Robinson. Well what a come down that is. Thought he was awful last time out for us. Scored a few last season but I’d be extremely disappointed if he signs.

Edit. Robinson signed. Not happy with that.

Again, this is the only real thing people are going off he was awful 4yrs ago,yes i agree but please look at the team he was playing in,look at what he has done at this level and look at the team now and how we play
