What's Rudge's role in all this?

What does he actually do? I love JR more than members of my own family but is he actually doing anything at the club? I see photos of him out on the training pitch and welcoming the players in to the dressing room after victories but I can't imagine him having anything to do with Aspin's brand of hoofball. I can't see the man who brought the most exciting, skillful football of my lifetime to Vale Park helping NA to set up a team to lump it up to Pope and not bothering with wingers. Aspin's said that Rudge isn't involved with scouting players, I imagined him as some kind of Director of Football but I don't believe he is. Any ideas?

I agree with the point that surely he cant have anything to do with how we play, and logically, as a consequence most certainly can't have any role in the teams training.

In fact the supplementary question, as apparently Aspin rarely takes or is actively involved in the training, who actually takes it and what the hell do they work on or are asked yo work on?

Tis a separate issue I grant you so in answering the question, I feel poor old Rudge is little more than an appeasing friendly face that is rolled out on match days to keep fans happy and reminiscing, and if so, that's a shame, hes so much better than that

Not seen him since October then if he only appears after (home) victories

Excellent posts. Not trying to scapegoat the Great Sir John , but yes what is his role? No way on earth would he want to be associated with the crazy antics of the Owner but also surely he can't be involved in tactics or have a say on the squads plans. He was well known here for building teams of passion, skill, speed and entertainment. Totally the opposite we are subjected to these past few seasons.

Yes, my understanding was that he was offering his services for nowt, but I don't think effectively he's doing much but he is in his seventies isn't he? Probably just pleased to have some day to day contact with PVFC and offer advice when needed.

I don't think he has any say in the players we sign or in team selection. He's often at training and reserve games and in and around the club on match days. But I think in reality he has little or no influence now.

Aspin seems very much his own man and the players we sign are his choices.

I believe Rudgie recommended Mitch Clark.

Ceremonial role at best. I think anything he has done has been to help Neil. He clearly thinks a lot of him. Less of the club actually. I don’t think Rudgie cares that much about the club really. After all, seeing how the club is doing now with his name associated with it, you’d think he would speak out.

He seems happy to let Smurf screw the club over. Someone associated with club needs to take a stand a get some vocal publicity in at Smurf but no one ever really has.
