Give Neil Aspin a Longer deal now Mr Smurthwaite!

I'd give Aspin a longer contract for a few reasons:

 

1. Fans often cry out for a "proven manager". At L2 level that means dross. A few wins a few defeats and virtually no loyalty. Technically Mark McGhee is a proven manager. So is Peter Taylor. You want them anywhere near the club? Aspin is proven success at non-league. He's managed over hundreds of games and had the chance to get things right or wrong. Brown and Page were both about 500 games behind where he is now in experience. That's 500x more exciting than getting some journeyman lower league manager who will stay for a couple of seasons and then get his paycheque getting sacked. Sack that idea I say!

 

2. Everyone likes Neil Aspin. If you don't - why are you supporting Vale?

 

3. Vale has been crying out for stability for the last 15 years. I had hoped that things would build under Page - although some saw this as dull and boring. That it may have been but we're now in L2. Giving Aspin a long contract to build the team and club would be a terrific idea.

 

4. He's got John Rudge behind him.

 

 

I know Vale fans are a moany lot. I'd ask yourself how can this actually be any better? John Rudge as DoF and Neil Aspin as manager. If you are unsure I'll answer it. This is the best management team Vale could possibly get. If you are one of these moany fans then I'll ask you to keep shtum for a couple of seasons while things get sorted out. This is a one shot chance - Vale do not have a better opportunity. There isn't a top european manager in the wings or another ex-player with a similar or better record. If Aspin's Vale go on a run of 5 defeats - so what. It will happen. Let's actually give Aspin and Rudge a proper plaform to get it right AND wrong.

This is a thread dedicated to to potential for Norman Smurthwaite will give Aspo a longer deal... an importantly whether he will make the right decision.

 

People have commented on his decision making in the past... particularly when it came to appointing managers, and this one in particular... That seems like a reasonable and logical thing to discuss on this thread to me.

 

I believe this is a football forum and that's why we come on the site.

 

You, in your normal, blood and thunder, Norman is ace, don't pick on him, leave him alone, way have then done your usual attack dog routine.... taking the thread off topic yet again. Its getting boring.

 

You may just be used to doing it with your hair trigger defense mechanism primed and ready... but if fans cant discuss his managerial decisions on a thread dedicated to him making a decision about the manager then the world is a crazy place!!

I havent seen many statements that are not factual... it would be a very short thread if we only discussed his accomplishments or successes... especially in a thread where you stated his 3 failures regarding managers.

I haven’t seen much that is to be fair, just another chance to stick the knife in and twist.

 

When Pope struggled at the start of the season he was rightly criticised, now he’s doing well he’s rightly being praised. It seems it’s not a level playing field.

Isn't 'not mentioning the Smurf' on a thread politely asking the man to give the manager a longer contract a bit like having a discussion on European aspects of World War 2 without mentioning Hitler ?

We are probably spending too much paying wages for the big squad we have inherited and that is why he has not been offered a new contract. When January comes and we offload some players and only sign what is needed to make a good squad I can see Aspo being offered a longer contract because he deserves it after how our players are performing for him. At this moment in time it about money and what we can afford to pay him because if he continues like he has so far he will be demanding a bigger wage than what we pay him now. Come January and I think things will be in place to offer him a new contract
