Without going into particulars, I found him to be quite unsavoury after a drink. And on a professional note, I think - and always have - that he was blessed with great players and limited tactical nouse.

The season we didn't make the playoffs in division 1, we were the best team in the league.

perhaps you shouldn't drink so much your view point might change, unless your an ex player who didn't get a crack at all the bottle of bubbly opened on numerous occasions-

|Rudgie knows more about football than any other person currently at the club, in an advisory role no issues- otherwise let norman close his eyes and randomly pick an applicant.

Of course, and Dean Glover gets the respect he deserves on here, doesn't he. I'm enough of a vale fan to have been to most games during his tenure, and old enough to remember that injuries forced him to pick Ian Taylor, he preferred Dean Stokes to Allan tankard, and had the good fortune to be able to sign good players for good money.

money he generated

Good god.

Neither of the above. There's no intrigue here. The club was much more open back in the day, and fans had much more access to players and staff. We sponsored a few games and were part of a supporters organisation and therefore spent a decent amount of time around Vale park.

Absolute ballcocks. If he preferred Stokes, how come he only played 60 times over 5 seasons compared to Tanks' (approx) 170 over the same seasons? Ian Taylor played every game except for 5 in his first season and scored in the 2nd game of that season. You don't know what the **** you are talking about.

Dear god no. He's a thousand years old, and towards the end was absolutely dire. In any capacity, he'd be a disaster. He's just left Hull after all, and we know how they got on last season. Let's just get past ex-Vale players and managers, for heaven's sake.

Plus, my experience of the bloke is that he's a complete creep. And he's been stealing a living for far too long in my eyes.

You clearly know nothing. John Rudge hasn't "just" left Hull - he, along with a load of other admin and scouting staff were made redundant about 9 months ago when the new manager came in. If you're hinting that he was involved in Hull's relegation, despite have left half way through the season, then he must also have contributed to their promotion and FA Cup Final when he was actually involved with the club??

When he left Vale we were in the Championship. I'd bloody kill to be there now thank you very much. To suggest that he was stealing a living at Vale or Stoke is a complete lack of understanding of his contribution to both clubs.

Why? Taylor was signed in 1992.

As I said (and Jacko51 proved), you don't know what you're talking about. The word legend is bandied about far too often nowadays but when people come and besmirch the name of a true Port Vale legend, and a good decent man, with lies and pathetic innuendo, it needs challenging. For many many Port Vale fans, John Rudge gave them the best footballing times of their lives and for you to come along and try and tarnish that with lies is disgraceful.

At stoke he certainly was, and his last season at Vale was among the worst football I've seen. We were clinging on to championship football, and I too wish we were there again. That said, I wish we could pay 500K for the best prospects in the lower leagues, and 100K+ for Leeds centre backs etc.
