Matchday Thread: Port Vale v Forest Green Rovers

Overall, you're probably right but this season he's already there (10%) if you count all games (12.5% is based on league games). But I genuinely wonder where our next win is coming from. Brown will go down imho, as the very worst manager we've had because he's taken us so close to going out of the league. There are pub managers who could do a better job (apols to any reading this!).

Ivor Powell was hated by his players, treated them like naughty children. But also I'd have say that it was 2 points for a win in those days and he picked up a fair few draws. This is the losing record:

Ivor Powell - 47.4%

Michael Brown - 55.9%

Ironic considering that Brown sets up his teams not to lose.

Apologies if these points have been raised before but I need to get them out. Starting at the beginning, the emergency loaned goalkeeper. (We always play a debutant. Today was his turn?) A simple question, why? If Brown has lost confidence in Hornby, who he brought in, why not play the one goalkeeper who's kept a clean sheet this season? Can a surplus to requirements keeper from Derby really make that much difference? The fact that he is a loanee has a huge bearing on your team, more of which later.

Next the team. Before kick off we were all playing guess the formation. The obvious thing to do with those players was a 3-5-2 but no instead we have a centre half at left back, a left back at left mid and a central player on the right wing. So we have at least five wide players on the books and none of them start. Stupid. Back to the team, Brown has admitted that his plan was for Dan Turner to play 60 minutes. A lung busting amount for a 19 year old. So we then bring a right winger on and play him in the middle, leaving the central player on the right wing. So Brown's plan was always to go to one up front after 60 minutes whatever the score because he didn't put Pyke on the bench. Crazy. Why? because he couldn't because of the extra loanee ie the goalkeeper. But on the bench were two centre halves plus we already had three on the pitch so Brown goes into the match with five available centre halves but only two front men one of which he planned to only use for an hour!! It's not even difficult!

Brown is the worst tactician I have ever seen at Vale and today for the first time I think he's lost the dressing room because the general air of apathy when it went to 1-1 was clear to see. Heartbreakingly I don't see Brown quitting or Smurfwaite paying off The Three Stooges and the club that love is on an inevitable path to non league and it seems the only people who care about it are the fans who love this club as much as I do. There are no words, there really aren't.

Very true. Quite unbelievable at a professional level. I thought Pyke must have been injured but Brown said it was because of the loan situation. As you say he always planned to take Turner off after 60 minutes. Damned by his own words.

I see Gavin Gunning told a supporter in the paddock, during the game, to "sit down and shut the **** up"

Bullies. All over the club.

He's a history of this at Dundee United according to my mate when we signed him.

His actions of standing at centre-back when we had a throw in to take in his left back postirion were utterly bizarre.

He and Pope both looked like they were competing to see who was the most knackered, oh wait that was Dan Turner 🙄

If Brown wanted Whitfield on why not take of the deadwood that was Gunning and put Denton who played well at left back!

Denton poked a toe in which ran to Pope. Held the ball looked around, spotted Turner's run and played a good ball into him to score. POPE IS NOT THE PROBLEM. Why on earth you lot want to bash Pope to death is beyond me.

Let us discuss Wilson. Let us discuss Middleton. Let us discuss Kay. Let us discuss the real dross on the books.

Watch Pope, he can barely get off the ground when the ball is in the air, let alone that struggling run he tries. ZERO GOALS IN TEN GAMES. 2 GOALS IN 2017!

He's no better than the others you mention, out experienced players have been a disaster so far.

Gunning is a nutter but that's problem #345 at the moment.

I think Popeys been treated harshly by some on here.

The lads a massive Vale fan and I know will be giving his best so to call him names is out of order.

Let's get things straight. The Vale have 2 massive problems. In ascending order:

Smurthwaite

Brown

Still think the players are good enough. But the manager needs to be changed to a more experienced manager. In the mode of Horton, Adams or Rudge.

You have to question their commitment to Brown or is he just a rubbish manager. Think the latter is the main reason with a bit of the first as well.

How can you take off your best players and expect them to win.

At this time I think Browny needs guidance from some manager he has played for and one he can trust.

I'm a massive Vale fan, most of us are, that doesn't make any of us good enough to play for the first team and clearly he's not. You only have to watch his performances to see that.
