Artell apologises.............

Didn't articlulate his point well first time round, has a bit of mischief about him, made some comment RS keep playing about hating oatcakes. The guy engages in a bit of banter, I think and also sees how what he said went beyond a mark. Can't help saying I like his interviews generally and think he's doing a good job.

He has explained the context of what he said and apologized for it causing offence when taken out of context. Well done. I have looked at the tackle on TV a few times and it is clearly pitching to be a red card and that is the way the ref has seen it. The offence came first - the matter in hand the ref makes the decision on. The play acting by Cooper (although I don't like his smirking and eventually running back on in a sprint, I'm not certain there was play acting, and neither was the ref who could not book him because of that uncertainty) did not affect the decision made by the ref. It is a second event.

I agree, and he has clearly turned round a poor team at Crewe and is getting them up the table. He is doing that despite them having a considerably weaker squad than Port Vale. He has it well organized. His interviews on Radio Stoke are usually reasonable, accepting I have not attended the games he is talking about most of the time.

It's the kind of thing Micky Adams would have said. The kind of thing you love if it's your manager and hate if it's not. The Crewe fans hated Adams, but the interview, and the more direct play they employ is very similar to the 'Micky Adams way' as opposed to the 'Crewe way'.

Yes, for all my 40+ years watching Port Vale Crewe have been a pass it around team. They were inherently much more direct on Saturday. But also like Wycombe and Chesterfield Artell noticed we are vulnerable to the ball over the top - not sure why that is happening - need to see more footage.

The so called ' Crewe way ' is a thing of the past. Time wasting, gamesmanship etc etc are now part of their make-up .

Those who think he is a breathe of fresh air and decent manager

WON 10 DREW 5 LOST 11 since taking over, so nothing to crow about though distinctly better than our manager albeit mainly in a lower division.

Exactly my thoughts. If we had won 1-0 and Brown had a sly dig at the Crewe fans we'd be loving it.

My view of the red card is that it could have gone either way. Tonge lost control and overstretched for the ball. It certainly wasn't two footed or particularly malicious. One thing for certain is that Cooper's reaction didn't help Tonge one bit. The way he sprinted back onto the pitch was damning.

As for Artell, he knew exactly what he was saying. He reminds me a lot of Tony Adams. In that his slow, deliberate speech is an effort to make himself look much more clever and thoughtful than he actually is. A classic pseudo intellectual.
