I love Vale because....

I remember hearing this roaring noise one Saturday afternoon from our back garden in Norton and asking my dad (a Stoke fan) what it was. He told me Vale were at home...I don't think I'd even heard of Port Vale so it seemed somehow special and mysterious. Some time afterwards we played West ham in the cup and my dad took me cos Bobby Moore was playing for the Hammers...I've no recollection if he did actually play..I was too mesmerised by the whole event to care...20,619 there allegedly

It was magical..that's the best word for it and I fell for Port Vale that day and it's been with me ever since. Still special, still a little mysterious and still magical.

I love Vale because it's in my blood, going back to my grandfather who went (when he could afford it) to the old Hanley Ground. Then my dad who took me to Vale Park when I was about 9. Then my youngest son who started to come with me as soon as he was old enough - fortunately, it was during the Rudge days so at least he knows how successful we can be.

Good times, bad times, you know I've had my share...

The Horton who later managed Manchester City? Yeah right...

Sent from my XT1072 using onevalefan mobile app

Horton was not as good a manager as Micky Adams, let alone John Rudge.

Saying he managed Manchester City needs to be taken in context - they ahd just had 3 consecutive Top 10 finishes when he took over, and in his 2 seasons they just avoided relegation and were generally considered rubbish by their fans. His tenure included a memeorable 5-0 loss to Manchester United, and he won just 4 of his last 25 games as City manager.

His successor at City was Alan Ball, does that make Ball a great manager ? Not really, as he finished the job Horton had started and got them relegated the next season.

Horton was one of the greatest ever Vale players, a true hero on the pitch but had many, many shortcomings as a manager, not the least being his arrogance and pompous attitude.

I love Vale because when I was kid living in Bradwell most of them on that estate were S##t fans or Grebos so I chose to be trendy be a mod, classy and support a tidy club.VTID.

MS mafia.

I had a choice but my dad would have drowned me if it wasn't Vale.
